Loft conversion - recommendations/tips

We'd like an L-shaped loft extension. Considering Loft Life, Classic and Outlook Lofts at the mo. If you have used them and def would/would not recommend them, or indeed another architect/builder combination, we'd love to hear why. It appears that dropping our ceilings is necessary. Any advice to maximise the new space?
