Just nipped out to gather a few items for a spot of lunch and the following observations were made on my journey from the Crystal Palace Road end of LL down to the roundabout and back again

Noticed seven 4 wheel buggies, one 3 wheel buggy, 4 pregnant ladies, 5 drivers on their mobiles while driving, shop signage at Somerfield being taken down, launderette next to the Magdala getting a new lick of paint.

The shopkeepers in G&B, Healthmatters and the Cheese Block were all very friendly.

Weather was mild with a hint of rain.

I don't think clarence comes round my way. Probably not posh enough for him to prance about. We're over run with cats but this was something else. I mean it really gets on my t*&s! It's almost like the owner plans it...'come on Rover, that's it, just here, bit to the left, line it up with their front path, Bingo! Fire!'

Dear Polly,

A small ciabatta from the Cheese Block, a little Serrano ham from G&B, some Beaufort Cheese from EDD and a tomato from Sainsburys! I was going to eat it in the garden but it had started raining by the time I'd assembled it all.

Not tried the G&B Scotch eggs but I noticed a nice little tartlet thing that I may try tomorrow.

I'll be dropping into the optician tomorrow, so will definitely check out the G&B scotch eggs :)

I wonder if there's such a thing as a healthy pork pie :-S

(I've been on lunchtime salads all week - trying to get the tum under control ready for the imminent Great Highland & Island Bike Ride)

Louisiana

1.35pm. Weather - warm. Down LL across NCR and up CPR.

14 - 4 wheel buggies [5 parked outside Blue Mountain]

1 - 3 wheeled buggy

4 drivers on mobile phones

The launderette now has a new windowledge and Somerfield has lost some tiles.

Anyone know what the green shop next to the Hairdressing suppliers on CPR used to be? Seem a similar vintage to the one next to the butchers

    • A shout out for Mark, owner of Pure Plumbers. 07970 971510 They're well established in the Sevenoaks area, but have recently started doing more work in SE London.  Did some v quick and efficient bathroom and boiler fixes for me; have also seen some of the bathrooms he's built, which have a nice attention to detail. • Totally agree regarding not supporting chains. Gail’s was fine but last time I went in Feb this year, actually walked out Fayetteville looking at menu and waiting 15 minutes to even get glass of water and not busy at all. Staff gone down hill - sooner it goes the better… Always prefer to support non chains - so many lovely places with good food to choose from with pleasant staff who know about customer service and sadly, non English which says a lot for our culture, pubs are also becoming abit of a hit and miss affair but maybe just unlucky. At the end of the day all about the chef. Still abit unclear where new place is located - is it down the road from Goose Green where parade of shops are before Peckham Rye?
    • Surely only where the local businesses offer clear advantages, otherwise you are rewarding what should be failure. I want to be served by a better bakery than Gail's, not a worse but local independent one. Certainly give a local independent some time to get the offer right, but don't buy goods which are worse and or more expensive just because the outlet isn't a chain.
    • Let’s just boycott all chains in favour of local businesses.  Places like Gail’s popping up everywhere has a very damaging impact on small businesses. It’s just the same as the new empanadas place but on a bigger scale. I’ll say it a million times more, we hold the power with our choices. Let’s use our power to look after ourselves and our environment (which includes small local family businesses). And yes, I also love Chacarero.
