For Sale: Pair of Original Vintage Bentwood Bistro chairs ?200

2 chairs, made in Poland, with the Latin motto "Semper Sursum" meaning "always aim high" printed on a label underneath.

The makers J & J Kohn were a leading Austrian manufacturer of furniture in Austria - Hungary. The company was founded in 1849 by Jacob and his son Josef.

Both seats have a wonderfully imbedded and incised design. The chairs are strong and balanced, no wobble or breaks. The screws are original and are tight and in perfect condition.

Excellent condition.

?200 for the pair

Collection in East Dulwich

PM me for further details

excuse me. No I was interested but the price put me off

I thought maybe u hadn't considered that ?200 was a v high price for two chairs

Authentic or not - and if they are second hand I think it's v highly priced

That is all

Good luck

Having being given the chairs by my grandmother who has sadly passed away, we have had them in our family for almost 100 years - the price is what the experts have estimated & I for one am not going to question their expertise.

Thanks for your interest

Still for sale;

For Roseigracex the expert:

Email from Thonet attached below, 300 Euros for a single chair :

Your chair has got the No. 118 and was produced from 1922 until 1935. The "Design" of the seat is especially beautiful and is only to be found on this model. The estimated collector's value is about 300?.

Best regards,

    • Well I did say I stand to be corrected! Fair enough, their website only seemed to list three branches. Perhaps it's a franchise model?  It's known as 'agglomeration' in economics Rookie error.
    • I didn't know there was a word for that — thanks!
    • This is just normal business behaviour. That's why there are so many coffee shops in ED and shops selling gifts and interiors stuff, clothes, restaurants.  If there's more than one business of a similar type then it can benefit all of them up to a saturation point and keep up quality. It's all sounding like many think Chango has made a malicious move when it actually sounds like it's owned by one guy who has a good business that has done well.   Anyway this is all great advertising for both empanada places. Very close by is the organic grocer who sells really good value and very tasty samosas and other Indian snacks which are also worth trying.
