I was pleasantly surprised to see that The Bishop had re-opened last night, ahead of schedule following the refurbishment. Popped in for a pint with the other Mr Derwent Grove and we liked the new look. Nothing too drastic but a new colour scheme, some smart new furniture. They also seem to have lowered the bar/tables in the windows which means that a short-arse like me stands a better chance of being served and also has the added benefit of letting in a bit more natural light through the windows. Didn't check out the food menu or the facilities so not sure if they have also undergone any form of upgrade.

Indeed. We got chucked out of it once because it was reserved for the dog, and the dog wasn't even anywhere to be seen :))

Put our head round on Saturday to see what they'd done to the pub, not that impressed really but then we never went in there anyway in recent years, so shan't miss anything :))

He doesn't. Not any more, finished with it and Greene King. Think Foxy is talking about a time, not now, a time in the past. I've seen him tell the dog get down as well. Circa 2013.

ETA: hope to pop in Saturday afo. Benches still out front presumably?

    • Vans are restricted to one hour a day 8:30 to 9:30 and have to be pre-booked.  So long as you went with and were able to show the right ID then I doubt it would be an issue unless the builders van is emblazoned with their branding as businesses aren't allowed to use it.
    • Perhaps they would run into the issue that Lambeth had if they put it on the  Rye - maybe they would need planning permission for change of use if more than 28 days of permitted development are used up for all the other events plus this. So perhaps emphasising that the two areas are distinct from each other actually helps the council.
    • I think the council could make more of that too. Sell a ticketed event with a local celebrity turning the lights on, followed by a street party with christmas carols and a christmas pop song cover band.
    • When we had lots of rubble to dispose of, we hired a zip an and took it. Didn't have to pay, but they don't allow vans in Sundays from memory
