I was sitting in my own tiny piece of South East London I call my garden the other day and noticed how nice it was to hear birdsong from neighbouring rooftops. I wondered why I'd never really noticed this before when it dawned on me that the P13 is currently on diversion. It is amazing how much quieter it is along Underhill Road that something as everyday as simple birdsong is no longer drowned out by the noise of a residential street choked by the congestion caused by the bus and associated traffic. Granted the water mains work has closed the route as a cut through to the top of Lordship Lane but I for one would not be disappointed if Thames Water decided to take their time in finishing before returning the road to normal.

In the meantime the Upland/Crebor street block is being hammered by drivers acting as if they're on the M1. My neighbour's car was side swiped this afternoon (about 2:45pm if anyone happened to witness it? It was a hit and run).

I do agree (as a runner who goes up and down Underhill a lot) that it's much more peaceful at the moment, although maybe not for the people with the big hole outside of their houses.

    • I have never used AI in my life. It's just notes from my forthcoming monograph on light industry in Dulwich and Camberwell 1879-1946 (dates chosen for obvious reasons).
    • Thank you, this really made me chuckle. It's like you met my brother as he would be the one taking more than his share. Plus the 'pikey' chutney is a winner. Unusual as in can't be identified??? Sadly I'm not the host otherwise I would definitely do that I regularly shop in the Cheese Block and am a fan. But as people have pointed out, there is no cheese shop that charges less based on bulk, so Aldi unusual cheeses may be what the familam receive! Yay, so I can get discounted mouse nibbled cheese still! Oooo, now I do love a Stinking Bishop. It actually offends my stepmum by it's stinkiness but luckily she is not one of the attendees at this particular gathering.  This is blooming genius. It's actually my partner who has the biggest issue with buying in plastic so I will have to hide the wrappers from him!
    • I like the look of SD's Sweet and Sour chicken. It's a really good dish when made freshly and well. I'll need to try it. Sad that Oriental Star and Lucky House by Dulwich Library both closed at a similarish time. They were decent, reliable, "British Chinese" takeaways.
