My son was at the Lido this weekend - it was mobbed as you'd expect. However, the strange thing is that the excellent cafe that used to be there has gone. Asking the manager the story is, apparently, that they're looking for a suitable caterer to take over the franchise but, so far, haven't found the right one.

Seems like a good opportunity for budding caterers out there?

East Dulwich Deli / Luca's / Blackbird Bakery / Herne Tavern / Petit Chou / Green & Blue - all provide good grub at different price levels. Any one could probably make a good go of it.

It is very much dependent on the weather, but a few years ago they had BBQs Friday and Saturday nights they were limited to 500 per night and each night a sell out at a ?10 per head it was great money they were making for cooking a few sweet corn etc.

Not many swam maybe 20%, and the rest sat at tables with a storm lamp or torch. Because it was a Friday night it extended the week-end somehow.

    • Adding my recommendation for Niko too. Found his number on here and he came out at short notice on a busy weeknight to help us with a kitchen sink issue that had flooded our kitchen that day. Really helpful, responsive and went out of his way to fit us in and help us out. Very reasonably priced too - would thoroughly recommend!
    • Looks like it! Though according to the OP, they are "golden, hand-crimped parcels  packed with flavour" 😀 I don't understand. Admittedly my brain is functioning at a very low level at the moment. Does that mean various local shops get together and agree to offer a discount to anyone who shows them a receipt from one of the other ones dated the same day? I can't see what's in it for either of them, unless people shop somewhere they wouldn't otherwise have done just to get the discount. Is it for vaguely  linked things, say cheese from a cheese shop, wine from another shop? Showing my age there.  And then suppose it's always the same shop which people go to second to get the discount? What's in it for the first shop? People go there in order to get the discount in the second shop?
    • Local (especially independent) businesses should do like Wheelers Oyster Bar in Whitstable and offer a discount to anyone who can show them a receipt from Chacarero dated the same day.
    • Aria was great, he managed to come the same day after what had turned out to be a pretty long day at work and fix a really bad blocked pipe that needed to be resolved as soon as practicable. He’s lovely, professional and really helpful. I would recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable plumber in the area. Thanks Aria!
