I am 100% pro-vaccination, but did research on the BCG and decided against it for my kids. As Etta says, if you lived just a few miles down the road it wouldn't have even been mentioned.

Do some reading about TB, and the people considered to be at risk, and weigh up whether you deem it necessary.

Congratulations on your new baby :)

The window is up to 1yr old & as I understand there should be adequate stock in NY then. Believe the shortage is nationwide so unsure anyone else would have supply & can imagine it not being done privately as low demand & wastage issues (one vial contains 10+ doses but has to be used within few hrs thus it's done as clinic format).

Know it seems worrying to hear this, but hopefully will be sorted soon.

  • 2 weeks later...

Hello,

My daughter had hers done two weeks ago at 13 months (having waited like you due to the shortage). Was advised that they are being far more flexible on the 1 year window following the shortage.

I would persist with weekly phone calls to your Health visitor until it becomes available. For what it is worth, I did a fair bit of research on this and its value and think it is worthwhile. It is offered in specific areas for a reason and you really cannot predict when or where your little one may come into contact with somebody else with TB.

cONGRATULATIONS ON YOUR NEWBORN BY THE WAY! '-)

    • Well thanks for enriching the conversation.  Would you chuck Fah - rage in too for his tax avoidance on his property?   I expect it was lead story on Jeremy Vine too.  Doesn't make it a story, just a bit more of BBC tabloid style sensationalism.  There are numerous real news stories in the UK and across the world.  And now, apt for Halloween, you have summoned up the ghost of Louisa. So for the third time, will you now eat humble pie?
