Earl Aelfheah
I quite like the sound of a bar with rotating chefs / pop ups.The main problem with that venue though is the narrow street frontage. It's a good space inside and it has a decent garden, but from the outside you can easily pass it without a second thought. The name is crushingly lame, hopefully they may rethink it. Earl Aelfheah
Sure, the name is pretty superficial, but when it actually makes you cringe it's unlikely to help attract passing trade. DulwichFox
Went passed yesterday lunch time.. They were closed... Went by again 20.30 . there was a group of 4-5 people outside. One asked are we going in? Door was opening but on inquiring they were told 'We are closed.' So have no idea what is going on there.? Is it actually open for trade yet. ?? Alan Medic
I'm stumped by this. On their FB page posted 1 hour ago (FB time), it says they are open tonight from 6pm. To book a table visit their website, link provided. Try the link and website is 'under construction'. What's that all about? DulwichFox
Its a bit of a mystery.. Greyed out window, No sign writing.. Just the Cat symbol. Gives the impression of a private club. Not very welcoming. A bit intimidating ? Zebedee Tring
Muff is a village in County Donegal. In the late 80s a local scuba enthusiast founded a diving society there called the Muff Diving Club. A naughty pun maybe but certainly wittier than Pussey Liquor. Zebedee Tring
At least the diving club is in a village called Muff, which made the choice of name rather tempting. By way of contrast Pussey Liquor is not located in a road called Pussey Lane. derwentgrove
I had dinner here last night with the other Mr Derwent Grove. We both thought it was a welcome addition to LL. The owner (Chloe) explained that they aim to rotate between up and coming chefs about three times per year (the current duo are called Smoke & Salt). I have to say that the cocktails, starters and mains were all innovative and excellent (no room for dessert). The wine list had some unusual varieties (we braved the 'Asshole Sauvignon Blanc' - from Germany - which fortunately tasted much better than it sounded).Overall it felt a bit like the Peckham Refreshment Rooms but structured into courses. If you can get past the name without clutching your pearls you are in for a treat. cella
That's what they're calling their wines? Can't imagine asking for a bottle and you don't need to be a pearl clutched to find the idea of this place unnecessarily awful and tacky. Not quite sure how this place got past Southwarks planning but with so much choice around will be easy to give it a wide berth. Zebedee Tring
"Asshole Sauvignon Blanc" - that's very witty and so adult. And it sounds about as appetising as the dish in the Peter Cook sketch called Peche a la Frog" Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/66516-pussey-liquor-bar-new-to-the-lane/page/4/#findComment-878483 Share on other sites
derwentgrove
In common with most restaurants I don't think they get to name the wine themselves. Somebody else did that for them (the wine maker, at a guess):http://mrvine.co.uk/Red-Squirrel-Wine-172/Asshole-Sauvignon-Blanc-2013-Germany-470The rest of the list was conventionally named but interesting - not sure I've had a Malbec from Languedoc before, for instance, and that also went down very nicely. MissDumpling
Had a very good meal in PL last night. Don't be put off by the name. Do have the cured trout and the duck.
