Careers Advice - would like a recommendation

Recommended Posts

Hello People!

I have decided that rather than moaning about my job - I am going to do something about it and make a change!

I have no idea what I want to do next or how to go about it so think I need some professional help.

I have looked online but it is rather daunting, as well as being hard to tell who is good / who is unsatisfactory and who will just take the inevitable fee and run!

Does anyone have a personal recommendations for someone that can help me with careers advice/guidance?

Thanks in advance.

Best advice I got many moons ago when contemplating a change was to write a list of things you enjoy, believe you do well, the skills you have, if you enjoy meeting people, work in an office etc. Then ask friends family what they think makes up you and their definition of your skills

I changed jobs at 40, having discovered that I was a 'people's person' did not like a routine day, did not want to work 9 - 5 but flexible hours, job satisfaction rather than pay. People told me that I was fair, non judgemental (most of the time)approachable, did not take myself too seriously, a good listener etc.

I went to University, gained a professional qualification and now have a career which ironically wanted when I was 18 but went down a different path

I like their articles - the stories of others who've changed careers... Helpful!

Ps I should add that ages ago I did a one evening workshop with them which was really helpful... But the coach on that then recruited us for 'one to one' coaching following on and I basically got nothing more from two expensive sessions with him then I had from the initial workshop... So get the key tips but don't spend a fortune with them! Not worth it!

I'm a Licensed Career Change Coach through Career Shifters and happy to have a non-obligatory consultation call.

Here's a link to my career development webpage: http://www.objcoaching.com/private/career/ and some testimonials (including those from other local parents): http://www.objcoaching.com/testimonials2/

A few local parents have requested a Group 'Career Change Coaching' Programme which is under development. Happy to keep you posted, if you provide your email address.

Best wishes,

Obi

    • Dear families,   My name is Eleanor. I’ve worked in NHS Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services for the past eight years, and I’m about to begin an Infant Observation course in preparation for psychotherapy training. I’m looking for a baby to observe as part of this training.   The observation involves me visiting a baby and their parent for one hour a week over two years, with the aim of deepening my understanding of early emotional and developmental processes. Taking part is a generous contribution to the training of future child psychotherapists — ultimately supporting the mental health of children and families.   Both of my own children were observed as babies, which I found to be a really positive experience. Having an observer gently witness my babies’ development helped me notice their weekly changes in a new way, and I came to appreciate the calm, consistent presence of a trained observer. I was sad when the observations ended!   If you — or someone you know — is expecting a baby due before the end of February*, I would love to hear from you. You can contact me at +44 7977 910018 or [email protected].   Best wishes, Eleanor
