A little birdie told me that Harry Findlay did his total bollocks on Tiger last week end and had every available penny piece on going in to the last round - now potless (again) wonder if he'll be selling Denman and the rest or offering 10p in the pound back like he did last time ?

Bollox united.

My bet on the aussies at 5s looks nice to lay off any time soon...and don't tell Jah but I had a reasonable lump on Spuds pre-season which will be traded off nicely methinks. Anyone had anything at York other than that wonderful horse? RD? MM? very quiet on here

Nope, nothing - actually Quids believe it or not I used to not bet frequently - hence I was careful and profitable - before I started posting on here I picked my bets quite carefully.

Anyway - My prominent next "intended" bet is, surprise surprise, on Rip van winkle for the Irish Champion Stakes on 5 Sep.

Just going to check the odds.....

5 September is also my birthday!!! so I'm deciding whether that should mean I bet more or less, as a present to myself.

Had a good day....

Had Oz at 6s after they lost at Lord's......on Friday lunch England were 8s so bet that!!! Then last night the draw was 15/1....never ever going to happen with the weather forecast and 6 sessions remaining there was always going to be a result so I laid everything that I could on Betfair,,,a little bit of a squeaky bum bet as it would have wiped me out but I like to think I'd have done it with 10x the amount if I'd had that in my account as it was a no brainer...

Worry not Quids - as long as I continue to earn more than ?100 per month I should be ok. I realised I was betting on all and sundry since starting this thread in an attempt to show my sporting expertise??? unsuccessfully - .......I have reverted to my normal pattern of regular carefully chosen bets.

I see Rip is not running until 26 September now at Ascot. The Irish Champion Stakes is interesting in that STS is well behing Fame and Glory in the betting. Rip not running though so may pass.

I have a lump on Arsenal now for the Premiership, that gives me someone to support this year.

Have a "saver" on Chelsea and unless Man.City buy 6 more Superstars then go to the "Pay" window and collect at the end of the season.

Suddenly guys like Nani, who only got a brief look in b4, are the players United are relying on.

You don't win Leagues if players like Giggs ( 2009 version) are still part of your plans ( "2002" was a different thing!)...

I do already have a saver on Chelsea Tony - at 2/1. It does not completley cover my Arsenal bet but its nice to have some insurance.

Happy not to have chosen MU or Liverpool this year. Not convinced by either at this stage. And can't believe any other team in with a chance of winning without a couple of years of challenging first.

    • The current wave of xenophobia is due to powerful/influential people stirring up hatred.  It;'s what happened in the past, think 1930s Germany.  It seems to be even easier now as so many get their information from social media, whether it is right or wrong.  The media seeking so called balance will bring some nutter on, they don't then bring a nutter on to counteract that. They now seem to turn to Reform at the first opportunity. So your life is 'shite', let;s blame someone else.  Whilst sounding a bit like a Tory, taking some ownership/personal responsibility would be a start.  There are some situations where that may be more challenging, in deindustrialised 'left behind' wasteland we can't all get on our bikes and find work.  But I loathe how it is now popular to blame those of us from relatively modest backgrounds, like me, who did see education and knowledge as a way to self improve. Now we are seen by some as smug liberals......
    • Kwik Fit buggered up an A/C leak diagnosis for me (saying there wasn't one, when there was) and sold a regas. The vehicle had to be taken to an A/C specialist for condensor replacement and a further regas. Not impressed.
    • Yes, these are all good points. I agree with you, that division has led us down dangerous paths in the past. And I deplore any kind of racism (as I think you probably know).  But I feel that a lot of the current wave of xenophobia we're witnessing is actually more about a general malaise and discontent. I know non-white people around here who are surprisingly vocal about immigrants - legal or otherwise. I think this feeling transcends skin colour for a lot of people and isn't as simple as, say, the Jew hatred of the 1930s or the Irish and Black racism that we saw laterally. I think people feel ignored and looked down upon.  What you don't realise, Sephiroth, is that I actually agree with a lot of what you're saying. I just think that looking down on people because of their voting history and opinions is self-defeating. And that's where Labour's getting it wrong and Reform is reaping the rewards.
    • @Sephiroth you made some interesting points on the economy, on the Lammy thread. Thought it worth broadening the discussion. Reeves (irrespective of her financial competence) clearly was too downbeat on things when Labour came into power. But could there have been more honesty on the liklihood of taxes going up (which they have done, and will do in any case due to the freezing of personal allowances).  It may have been a silly commitment not to do this, but were you damned if you do and damned if you don't?
