Gold Cup has been my best race over last 10 years.

Not looking so good for leinster though. Losing now.

Lost - but good game. London Irish look very strong - maybe a good bet for the Guinness Premiership.

Maybe Irish teams will do the rugby slam this year - six nations, heineken cup and English Premiership?

STS is now 5.0 on Betfair so drifting today - hope that means hes not intending to run. Don;t think he has anything to prove (and don't want him upsetting Rip again).

Am going to Newmarket next Saturday and Fame and Glory was a confirmed runner today - so will be good to see him run.

Hi Quids

Newmarket - up on Friday, down on Saturday and down overall. Made up for most of it with good win on High Heeled the following weekend.

4 days till Rip gets his chance and after yet another foot injury scare Aiden O Brien seems very happy with his condition and he seems to like the surface.

Have also backed, Conduit, Delegator and Mastercraftsman.

Went to the Breeders Cup in 2005, backed all of the European horses and they all lost - so you don't know what to expect.

Was going to suggest we met for a beer to watch the Saturday night races - but have decided to refrain from beers for November, partly for health reasons and part impending birth, so have decided to watch it indoors, but if Rip wins you will probably hear me from your house!

I am happy with the odds of a mix of about 2.5 to 1. But there is a lot of class in the race - but very good vibes coming from Ballydoyle. I would say 2/1 is a fair price now, its too short now with the home bookies which is typical breeders cup.

I'd love to see it win - primarily for the money I will lose if it does not - but also I have been pushing this horse since before the Eclipse (did you know that already??) and I really want to see it fulfil its potential. Aiden O Brien has said its the best horse they have ever had and thats really saying something.

I have enjoyed seeing it perform as well as it has. If you recall it was 7/1 for the Eclipse and chased STS home by a length that day.

But I'm rarely confident in the Bredders Cup.

I have a small saver on Summer Bird, not sure why I did that, but won't be doing any more on the race.

There is now only a point between Rip and Zenyatta on Betfair 3.3 versus 4.3. Seems strange.

The jockey said: "I have always dreamed of winning the Classic. It is the best race and all of the best horses run in it. It is the one race I would love to win.

"When you are sitting at home watching it on TV and the Classic comes along you do get that buzz. Come Saturday and for Rip to win it would be brilliant. You can see what it means to everyone at Ballydoyle and everyone is getting a buzz out of this."

Rip Van Winkle was noticeably sweaty when working on the track on Wednesday, but Murtagh is unfazed by that and believes his partner can end the winning run of 'wonder-mare' Zenyatta.

He said: "The lad who rides him out says he is really bouncing and I have always thought the surface would suit him with the way he moves across the ground.

"He stays well and I think a mile and a quarter around here will be tailor-made for him. He is a horse I really like. He has a fantastic cruising gear and a great heart. If he can win this I think it will justify all the thoughts I have had of him.

"He would die for you and is all heart. He has got it all and there is no weakness with him. Zenyatta looks very good, but she hasn't run against the Rip yet."

Quids

First win of the Breeders Cup with Midday.....first Breeders Cup win for Henry Cecil and a great ride up the inside by Tom Quealy.

I have to say its a very narrow track, sharp bend and very little finishing straight. If you are out of position coming off the bend you will not have time to rectify it in the straight.

I think this will suit Rip who has a high travelling speed and hopefully will take the corner in the lead, but who knows.

At least I'm in profit for tonight.

PS: How quiet is the forum tonight!

Mastercraftsman looked like a potential winner, but almost hit the rail and stopped - did not win a race on which he was a big favourite. He looked to take the inside rail and almost lost his footing. Hope he is not injured.

Getting a bit concerned about OBrien horses not performimg so far!! At the races are questioning them missing the start in most races and also that they are not on medication, which is legal in the states and some european winners are taking advantage of it.

The one to back tonight was Goldikova. He was absolutely excellent. Its Conduit up next and would be nice to get a winner in the bag before the big one.

Its noce to edge into profit for the meeting again Quids - But there's only one horse that matters tonight - and Rip is drifting to 5/2. I'm certainly less confident than I was a month ago but have just remembered that Rip and STS beat Conduit by a good few lenghts in the Eclipse, so hope that last race franks Rip's class. We will soon know. On the downside Murtagh not having a good day today...

Think I might be best just to switch to MOTD for the next half hour as feel heart beginning to beat a little faster....:-S

    • She also suggested that the 2017 Manchester terror attack (perpetrated by an Islamist extremist) was due to "divisiveness" and tried to pin the blame on the far right. Grim, really.
    • Thankfully, it seems that yesterday's "Red vs Blue" school wars thing has turned out to be a hoax/ nonsense/ whatever. (See link below if you managed to avoid this stuff). In years to come, we might found out who - or which countries - has an interest in testing what happens when you post socially disruptive content online about fake events... In the meantime, thank you to our local teachers and other school workers, police community support officers and police officers. My commute happens to take me past a bunch of schools at dropoff/pickup times, and I noticed a much greater and more visible presence on streets outside/near schools than normal. Annoying as it must have been to be distracted from other important duties, I really value and appreciate them looking out for the kids. https://uk.news.yahoo.com/school-wars-trend-red-blue-london-police-latest-142328025.html https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026/jan/01/birmingham-new-year-fireworks-display-centenary-square-police

    • a) Because they published a leaflet in Urdu promising to give "Muslims a strong voice". This is reprehensible - just as a party that promised to give Protestants or Jews or Buddhists alone "a strong voice" would be acting in a sectarian manner. Parties - especially socialist ones like the English & Welsh Greens are now - should not be assymetrically promoting the interests of one religious group. b) Because they published a video in Urdu and Bangla criticising Kier Starmer for meeting Narendra Modi, when Modi has nothing to do with the issues discussed. Modi is a Hindu nationalist bigot - but in this context, the Greens are just shitstirring existing tensions between British Hindus and British Muslims for the purpose of trying to win Muslim votes - see the first point. FWIW I don't have any problem with parties communicating with the electorate in languages other than English (from Irish to Polish to Malayalam). What is very suspicious is when parties pump out sectarian messages only in one language... When Mamdani ran for Mayor of NYC (and won) he released plenty of campaign videos in multiple languages - but always with English subtitles too. There was never a suggestion he was sending different, sectarian messages to different groups.     https://uk.news.yahoo.com/why-greens-made-advert-urdu-164616073.html https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/world/uk/uk-green-party-accused-of-sectarianism-after-releasing-videos-in-urdu-and-bangla-featuring-pm-modi-and-gaza/articleshow/128826689.cms
