I think it would depend on whether the person staying pays council tax at the property?

I have my sister staying with me at the moment while she sells her flat. She pays council tax at the flat she owns, so I have assumed that I would still get the single occupancy council tax here.

However once she has moved out of her flat, if she hasn't found a place to buy and is still living with me, I imagine then I would lose the single occupancy discount (I'd be better off though as she'd be paying half the council tax :) )

ETA: Sorry, just realised I'm not sure if you're talking about housing benefit or council tax.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. I had to pay Council Tax on two properties when I moved to Southwark as my obligation extended both to the property I'd bought and the rental I was living in while the house was being made habitable, so just because you've paid it in one location does not mean you are exempt if you are temporarily living elsewhere.

    • Brilliant emergency weekend service from Aria from AFE Plumbing to replace our stopcock valve as it started leaking heavily on Saturday. He explained everything clearly and completed the job efficiently. Kind and well-mannered, would highly recommend!
    • Hello everyone, We have lost our wonderful moggie, Cookie.  She's been missing for over a week now and was lost around the back of our house on rail track land around Croxted Road/Turney Road junction. Please do keep an eye out for her and if you see her please let us know urgently as she isn't familiar with the area at all, we are very worried.  She has a microchip (with my brother's contact details) She's black with ginger/brown markings, very distinctive. If you have had sightings of her or seen her at anytime please let do let me know, Henna 07941 047094 If you could post on your local/street groups too, I'd be very grateful. Thank you!
