We are in the need of some warm and sunny days.

We were thinking of packing our tent and kids and drive to France and spend some nice, warm days there.

But: is this do-able in August?

I know it is high season, will it be packed and I need to pre-book everything?

And: where should we go (not all the way down south)?

The internet offers far too much, I need a smaller radius to focus on.

Your experience and advice would be much appreciated

You do need to book! We are camping in Brittony. I booked a month ago and there were two plots left. It's only our second camping trip to France so can't offer recommendations on campsites. One of the other places where I'd love to camp is ile d'Oleron, which is further down the Atlantic Coast.
the lot and the cele valleys (just east of the dordogne) are lovely and quiet (hardly any Brits) and warm - lots of smaller municipal campsites (nice, by the river, small pools) that probably don't need booking) you can get a good app that shows all campsites nearby...Archie's Camping

    • If people have to let loud fireworks off then why do it late at night? That’s the bit I don’t understand. I heard them up until gone 11pm last night. Really feel for the wildlife as well as for people who have to be up early for work.
    • He's an ambitious guy - presume the aim is to get elected as a Green MP. But a lot can happen in 3 years.      Personally I think planning for funding gaps when you have no money is the sensible thing to do.
    • Ah, so it’s not the Lib Dems’ fault for enabling the vicious austerity policies of Cameron and Osborne by getting into bed with the tories? The state we are in is entirely traceable to the coalition years and the Lib Dems should be damned for all time for what you did in 2010-15.
    • Not been cynical, I'd say he can't stand for a party which has moved so far to the right it has come to represent things he does not believe in. Quite apart from what happened to him personally, which was disgraceful.
