"No its not... As long as it does not say Raw, Natural Honey.. it can be labelled ay 'Honey' "

Still talking out of the wrong hole, sadly. What the rules say is:

"The purpose of this provision is to maintain the purity of honey, which is

perceived by the consumer to be an entirely natural product with nothing

added or taken away.....

...honey that contains

added ingredients may not be described as ?honey? (or by any of the reserved

descriptions)."

I'm sure I have as the Mrs. likes animation. It was one of those if you start watching you have to continue.

Whooped 'em again, Josey

I was in Khan's today and, on my way to the chilli oil via the small packs of sesame seeds, passed the 'Honey' shelf.

Alongside the Rowse honey (?2 a jar, if anyone's interested) are much larger jars of what, on first glance, looked like regular, everyday honey, with the added attraction of a huge slab of honeycomb inside, also priced around ?2.

HOWEVER, ON CLOSER INSPECTION:

Ingredients as listed:

Honey (10%)

Fructose Corn Syrup (30%)

Honeycomb (60%)

The jars aren't labelled 'Honey' as such, but they do feature a sinister-looking bee on the label and are of a script that my untrained eye couldn't decipher.

I guess if you're a honey fan on the hunt for a cheap fix then it pays to read the ingredients.

Craig (butcher opposite Plough) has two types of honey at ?5 for a large jar.

The darker one, he tells me, is taken from the hives when they are mainly collecting pollen from tree blossom and other woodland delights, the lighter one is more of a meadow thang.

The lighter one is cloudy-ish because some pollen is added - both are delicious.

Thank for that.

So even talking out of my arse I was still right

Foxy

The original discusion was that Blah Blah wrote.

'I get honey from khan's on Rye Lane. ?2 for a big jar and it has a piece of the actual honeycomb in it, which is a nice touch.'

And I said suggested that after buying the same product myself it was not real Honey.

When I asked in the Turkish shop on Lordship Lane for Honey I was shown the same product as

Blah Blah bought.

The jar had a Big Bee on the label and a piece of Honeycomb inside the jar that was enough

to convince Blah Blah and myself we had bought genuine Honey.

So technically being advertised and sold as Honey. Well it does have 10% honey. But 30% corn Syrup which

is what I said it was. Thats why it's ?2.00

Foxy don't bother talking about the facts. Why let them get in the way of a good opportunity for a tired old ad naseum Foxy/Louisa bashing eh?

Badgers Mount in Kent has a great garden centre that sells 100% real honey produced locally, and I can assure everyone it's a lot more than 2 quid a pop.

Louisa.

Quite right Lou..

I was just replying to Blah Blah that I was caught out by the same con.

Horsebox came up with the facts. Case Closed.

Then the usual mob step in and hijack the thread with pedantry comments with meticulous synchronicity.

You could almost set your watch by it. :)

Have you read ANY of this tread. ?

I said it was 'Fructose Corn Syrup ' and it was / is.

DulwichFox.. Not arguing .. Just Quoting Facts.

    • Sorry Sue - me again. This has been on my mind all day, it's a big bug bear of mine. If you don't mind - please can you private message me some of these shops so I can cross reference / add to my AVOID list.  Thanks in advance. Let's make sure this doesn't happen this Christmas, particularly as we head into sales season. Even more problematic in my experience.
    • Pity you didn't quote what you are referring to, Mal. I didn't see the previous post, and my mind is boggling 😮
    • The Cherry Tree was absolutely excellent for a while when a youngish couple ran it and brought in a really good chef. It was them who renamed it The Cherry Tree. They were really turning it around. The chef did fantastic Scotch eggs, and one of the best roasts I've ever had. If memory serves the then owner,  for some reason known only to himself, took a dislike to them and what they were doing and sacked them all. And yes we weren't expecting a top class  meal last Christmas, and we left it too late to book anywhere else, but we weren't expecting it for a hundred pounds EACH to be quite as terrible as it was. Stupid us. Not sure why you are confused by my post, Jazzer? Did I misremember? Now it's got even more confusing because my posts have been merged and your confused emoji is shown at the bottom of the second one instead of the first 🤣
    • Hear hear. Very well said. Thank you and all the best for the year ahead
