My lovely little 9 month old has finally learnt to roll over (from her back to her tummy). However as she is able to push herself up into a sitting position from lying on her tummy, she now seems to want to test this skill as often as possible. Result is that as soon as you lie her down to go to sleep she rolls herself over and sits up, does a couple of cries, sticks her thumb in and waits for someone to come and put her on her back again. The first few times we thought this was quite cute, but at 5.15am this morning I wasn't so impressed!

I am pretty sure physically that she is unable to get herself lying on her back so needs someone to do it. Does anyone have any suggestions on either - stopping her from doing it (!) or ways of coping?!

She (and I) have been sleeping amazingly well for the last 3 months (her 7-7) and if she woke up she popped her thumb in and went back to sleep and now she just feels the need to sit up, which means mummy has to get out to bed to help!

Any suggestions at all gratefully appreciated.....

Tessa

Hi Tess,

Hmmm, my 9 month old can turn over and sit up in her grow bag, so not sure that will help - or it may for a while but not long term.

Not really sure what to suggest, I'd say it is only a phase and she will, quickly I hope, get over it.

The minute I put mine in her cot she rolls onto her front, and I only find her sitting up playing in the morning, or very rarely in the night if she wakes, though more often she is on her back crying if in the night.

I think you just need to keep doing what you are doing and she will figure out not to do it unless it is 'getting up time'.

Good luck, I hope it is a very short phase!

Hi Tess- my now 18 month old went through this phase, when she was learning to roll over, to sit up and to stand up...in all three cases we went through a period of a couple of weeks of rubbish nights, having to lie her back down and soothe her back to sleep. I'm sorry i can't offer a solution, but sometimes it helps to know that it is a phase and other people have noticed it!

Got a message back within a day to say medication ordered from chemist.

    • Oh give it a break.  We have an MP who makes racist comments, yet our media (and what seems like this Forum) that generally hate Labour (and loved Johnson) are just out looking for the dirt. It's a move on, nothing to see here.  Particularly if she used a letting agency.
