"What has 'God' got to do with religion uncleglen?"

Generally a fair bit unless something escapes me.

re?li?gion   [ri-lij-uhn]

noun

1.

a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs.

2.

a specific fundamental set of beliefs and practices generally agreed upon by a number of persons or sects: the Christian religion; the Buddhist religion.

3.

the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices: a world council of religions.

Unless you're speaking for God, in which case is there something you want to share with us ;-P

NorthSouth, that [sarcastic voice]amusing[/sarcastic voice] contribution was first done on page 1 of this thread, twenty......seven.....god.....forsaken.....pages ago!

Religion is not dependent on God for its existence.

Well at least not on the God who seems to be the subject of this particularly scintillating little window into the conceptual depths of the opinions held by those who feel the need to share.

That is I assume we are talking about God, The One True aka Jehovah, Allah a la church and vicars and shit like that?

His Omnipotent Vengefulness who was first thought up in ancient Egypt and after millennia of their selfless worship finally revealed himself to his chosen people via the medium of FOX on 8 October 1992?*

That guy? I?m pretty sure there are lots of religions that exist without His input.

Of course the followers of said religions would not exist if Lord Glorious Bollocks of Jerusalem had not created them in his image and granted them free will. The ungrateful pagans.

Fixed that too....twice

A friend who teaches in a faith school told me that she has been disturbed by recent comments made by older teenagers in the sixth form who believe that being religious is 'good' and not being religious is 'bad'. One student asked her if she believed in 'god' and she would not say and the student said that if she doesn't the student was going to leave her class and not come back(fear of being struck down?) Also she told me that the biology students get very indignant when taught Natural Selection and Evolution. So 'God' is alive and well and living in South London- at least!
