It's a popular Church school (note therefore the admissions policies - 2 for children with special needs, 35 for Christians and 23 open places, so get pious if you're not already, and want one of the 35...). Note also belief comes above siblings here. 234 applications for 60 places last year (slightly more than the previous year). Ofsted - good. 72% KS2 Level 4 performance in 2014 (below Southwark average of 81%).

It's a fab school. I've had two daughters go through recently, now in yrs 7 & 10 at secondary. Loads of teaching staff and support staff and very friendly office staff. Loads of days trips related to topics, which change each half-term. Two residential trips - Michael Morpurgo Farms for City Kids in yr 5 and PGL in year 6. Church service for whole school and parents / carers etc on the morning of the final day of each 3 terms (not compulsory for parents). Various after school clubs. A breakfast club. Great pastoral care. Children mix throughout the years esp at playtime and external play leaders to lead organised games at playtimes. Good teaching standard. Music, art, IT and French all focused on. Have a look at the website and twitter feed to see all that goes on - it's busy.

Hi

I can second Mrs TP's view!

We came from another school as eldest transferred in in year 2. We have three children there at present and they love it. My children have various abilities and these are being met. Plus they try really hard to keep parents in the loop. Weekly headteacher newsletters, each year they arrange a "meet the teacher" for parents and termly curriculum events so you can go into class and join them in an activity. We had some issues with eldest about sport and they listened and responded really quickly, all sorted within a couple of weeks. Also, just generally really nice relationships between staff, parents and kids. All good from our perspective

    • We used to feed the birds, but once the parakeets discovered this they just took over, scaring away all the other species and eating everything in sight. I tried scaring them away with a Nerf gun, but they just didn't care. I know it will open a can of worms (no pun intended) but I really think  the parakeet population needs to be reduced; yes they are pretty, but they are just like a plague of locusts when it comes to food supplies.  PS apologies for pedantry @malumbu but the true definition of "decimate" is to reduce by a tenth... 🫤
    • If anyone is going to the meetings above, you may wish to raise the issue of the impact of the lights, noise & activity on the local bat population. Gala commissioned a survey on bat activity, which stated that activity had been identified, with several species detected, and that action must be taken to minimise any disturbance to these legally protected species. One of the recommendations was "to limit artificial lighting and reduce noise levels starting at least 20 minutes before sunset throughout the event period"  I asked the Events Team three months ago whether this recommendation had been implemented. I finally got an answer yesterday - "This recommendation was not achievable due to the nature of the event... it was concluded that not implementing this recommendation would have little impact"  So there you have it. Commission a survey (box ticked) and then don't adhere to the findings because it's "not achievable", thereby wilfully and knowingly negatively affecting the foraging & commuting habits of a legally protected wildlife species. This is on top of the useless bird survey, which only takes into account activity within the walls of the site, not the surrounding area which is full of trees with nesting birds which are undoubtedly disturbed by a month of noise, lights & activity.
    • Really good service. Good bread. And very accommodating when we had to outwit our clever resident fox.
    • ...and so, 4 years on from the "dramatic planning meeting" that approved the "meganursery", how has it all worked out in reality? The building looks nice from the outside - but I don't know anything more. Did either of the nursery businesses on EDG fail because there was no demand for nursery places in East Dulwich? Did Carmageddon on East Dulwich Grove get worse? Were pre-COVID work patterns abandoned forever (lol)? Were some of the concerns expressed in opposition to the planning application a teensy bit overblown...? https://southwarknews.co.uk/area/southwark/mega-nursery-approved-amid-dramatic-planning-meeting/
