Hi,

I wonder if anyone can help?

I'm 7 weeks pregnant and registered with Dulwich Medical Centre. I also have a 1 year old. For my last pregnancy I was with the Lanes midwife team and they were really great.

I understand the from the reception team at DMC that Lanes are being disbanded and they currently have just one midwife. The only appointment they would offer me is a group appointment at 12 noon on the days they run. They couldn't tell me how long it would take and this doesn't work very well with feeding my 1 yr old and getting him down for a nap.

I've been given the phone number for the midwife but after leaving messages on three separate days I am running out of hope for hearing back from them.

Should I change GPs to try and register with another team? Does anyone have any other thoughts on what I could do. DMC reception have not been very helpful.

Thanks

Thanks, Giacomelli. I'm glad it was some use.

Kaffin, case loading midwifery, as the Lanes used to do, is now provided for East Dulwich by what used to be Oakwood, soon to be called Juniper. Give them a ring on 020 8299 5696 and find out how you can register with them.

If you're prepared to give birth at St Thomas hospital you can register directly with the hospital and ask for a caseload midwife. They either visit you at home (if you're close to their catchment area, maybe round Myatt's Fields) or you go to them at Manor Place near Elephant - again, whether that's convenient depends on where you live/whether you mind a bus ride.

    • Unless you are watching it 24x7 then its hard to qualify that its not being used. Unless you are a business overlooking it of course. Personally I am reassured we still have phone boxes as they provide a valuable emergency use. If you are mugged for you phone, you can call 999 from them, if your house or business is on fire and you run out without a phone you can dial 999 from them. Some people don't have a mobile so its potentially reassuring for them knowing they can call someone if they feel unwell whilst out.  Just because some people don't see value in an object, doesn't mean others don't.
    • Hardly a non-story @malumbu still one of the lead stories on the BBC.....you clearly don't understand when to serve humble pie! 😉  https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cvgk40l8jm7o   Absolutely. It's a disaster. And for this government, who were happy to tell us they had 14 years to prepare to lead, it has been one self-inflicted disaster after another since they took over. To be honest the signs were there when they were in opposition but I think we all gave them the benefit of the doubt as they weren't the Tories and now they have the reigns the additional scrutiny that brings is tripping them up.
    • I don't think I've ever seen it used other than for gluing advertising on it. It's definitely not a priority but these things typically get ignored and become part of the furniture (so to speak).  There is a beautiful old red box near Upland Rd. I miss old red boxes... 😞 Anyway I'll have a dig around and see if anything can be done.
    • £30-40 for M&S Christmas food for two seems very low! And only £60 for food and drink for 8-10 people?  We have had M&S food at Christmas in the past, and it came to a lot more than that. I suppose it depends exactly what you are buying. We left it late to book a Christmas Day meal out last year, so there weren't many options left.  The Cherry Tree menu looked very nice. That was our first mistake. We also overlooked the fact that it was a Young's pub, with all that implies about the food. That was our second mistake. We don't have shedloads of money. We  took the view that we deserved a nice meal  out after working bloody hard all year. So it was doubly disappointing to basically waste a lot of money which could have been very much better  spent elsewhere.
