Southwark Council officers are looking at what flood relief scheme may or may not be needed for the Peckham Rye/East Dulwich area - eastern parts of East Dulwich.

To get the process started they're seeking any information or data about past local flooding. Photos, video, notes, memories. They would then map these to get an idea of degree and extent and then consider solutions.

If you have been flooded at any time, or know of past flooding of your or another property can you please share any materials about this with the lead council official [email protected] and myself.

Depending upon how many people have been affected we may organise a local meeting to discuss past flooding, what officers can do with partners such as Thames Water and the Environment agency to relieve the chances of future flooding and the general process and timescales.

I have initially suggested they seek London Fire Brigade records of basements flats and cellars from flooding I recall 6-8 and 10-12 years ago.

Obtain the Camberwell Borough Council Borough Engineer's documentation about the storm drain/sewer built under Grove Vale c1962.

This stopped the regular flooding of the Grove Vale depression.

If you ask nicely you may be given a guided tour by going down the very deep manhole outside the Mind Shop.

We live just outside East Dulwich ward. Our cellar flooded in 2012 as did at least one neighbour's cellar. We have lived in the same house since early 1987 and had never had any water in the cellar before this. We involved Thames Water who said it was fresh water not sewage and that a stream might have been diverted when someone further upstream did some building work. Having seen a pump on television used in a similar situation we got one fitted. This seems completely to have solved the problem.

We are on Crawthew Grove, and the cellar often used to get flooded in the early 80s-mid 90s it still happens when there is extreme rain, but not for a year or so I think. This used to happen to neighbors up the street too, but since people tend to buy, renovate and move out every few months on this road nowadays I have no contact with any of our neighbors so am unsure if it's still a street wide issue any longer.
