Would you like the street artist Phlegm to paint a mural on your wall?

You may have noticed the street art that has popped up in the area in the last couple of years. There have been lots of discussion of them here.

The walls are organised by Dulwich Outdoor Gallery https://www.facebook.com/DulwichOutdoorGallery?ref=hl and the subject matter always relates in some way to paintings in Dulwich Picture Gallery. The next exhibition at DPG is works by Escher http://www.dulwichpicturegallery.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/2015/october/the-amazing-world-of-m-c-escher/ and Phlegm has agreed to paint a wall relating to this. I (DOG) just need a wall! The more prominent it is the better.

Phlegm is massively respected in the street art world and has already painted one Dulwich wall, a man playing a circular trumpet on the corner of Barry Road and Goodrich Road.

Please private message me if you are interested or want more info. Thanks so much.

Yes John, I know 'Dulwich' isnt strictly accurate. In fact there are walls belonging to this project in Nunhead, Peckham and Forest Hill. But the name 'Dulwich Outdoor Gallery' chimes a bit with 'Dulwich Picture Gallery' in the same obscure way as the walls chime with the old master paintings.

Yes, Phlegm does paint all over the world. The one you attached is amazing. I think the coloured parts would be by another artist, as I have never seen him paint other than in black and white. I might be wrong.

no one pays anything for these murals unless. The pubs have all given free food and drink to the artists while they are painting and sometimes paid for the paint. Dulwich Outdoor Gallery funds it all.

I think that was intended as a joke (cough/phlegm, geddit?)

Phlegm is painting a wall now, its 155 London Road, Herne Hill. Its right opposite the large entrance to Brockwell Park and that big traffic intersection. He is going far faster than I expected and will probably finish it today. If you want to pop down and speak to him, go this afternoon if possible.

Hello, I know Phlegm is already painting a mural in Herne Hill but I was wondering if he would be interested in painting a small one on my gate. I was about to paint it a whacky colour or get someone to paint something on it anyway.

Yes of course. Find a suitable wall (very visible and not on a listed building), make sure the owner doesnt mind, and I will organise.

Its explained in the thread here http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1576213,1576213#msg-1576213

It means much more when you know the picture it is based on, see attached image. The old one is of Lady Venetia Digby by Van Dyck, painted in 1633.

    • We used Anstey Horne following work done by our neighbours and they were very helpful. Maybe they could provide some guidance? Good luck. https://www.ansteyhorne.co.uk/about/team
    • Sounds like your neighbour is trying to bully you into  to be compliant and stay quiet.  You really don't have any choice but to contact Southwark regarding building alteration planning permission.  But also try to find your own surveyor asap.  It might cost you now.  But if you don't it could well really get expensive and cause issues with any potential selling in the future.  Don't feel bad about standing up for yourself and your future.....
    • Thank you, he's pretty adamant a party wall agreement isn't needed so no chance of getting plans, he's been very cagey about what's being done. I've asked for the specific clause in the Party Wall Act that suggests he doesn't because I'm pretty worried. Is it just the chimney breasts that would fall under the act? He's insisting the others don't count as party walls.
    • Thanks  for the reminder nellie. Have today received two letters dated February 2024. Heading down to Highshore Road tomorrow to see if there's anything for us. I'm getting obsessive about missing/late arriving bills since having our phone and broadband cut off when we hadn't received (so hadn't paid) a bill from BT that had been posted to us. I now keep a note in my diary of when the various utility bills are expected, and phoning them when I think something is due, invariably they say the bill has been sent out. It shouldn't be so hard.
