Hi there Helen,


I've been a registered childminder for a year and half now and it took me roughly 7 months from the initial meeting to being able to look after children.

However, alot depends on how quickly your course follows your pre-reg meeting and all the red tape you have to go through, such as CRB checks. Mine were really fast but I have known childminders whose CRB's took ages to come back.


Hopefully you won't have to wait long, good luck, it's a great job to have these days and just to reassure you, I constantly had people asking me if I had vacancies, there's a big lack of qualified and reliable childminders out there!

    • It's more likely a buzzard – one or two have been seen in recent years, particularly over Dulwich and Sydenham Woods. You don't have to go far to see them regularly – Addington, West Wickham and Biggin Hill, for instance.
    • Roll on the time  , if ever, when we adopt the Australian system whereby the agreed price becomes binding. The whole process takes place much more swiftly and with less hassle than it does here. Scotland have a good system also.
    • My view is that it's really, really poor behaviour. Unfortunately some people are rubbish.
    • Just seen a very large bird slowly circling over the bottom end of the Rye/Nunhead area. I think it was a red kite but can't be sure at that height
