Fuschia
I mailed Southwark libraries about their lack of recently published parenting books and they agreed to buy some, inc Gill Rapley on BLW. It's a relaly good book! You can now order it from the libraryhttp://prism.talis.com/southwark/items/740549?searchTextBox=gill+rapley&resultsUri=%2Fsouthwark%2Fsearchaction.php%3FsearchTextBox%3Dgill%2Brapley Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7748-baby-led-weaning-book/ Share on other sites

snowboarder
I just bought this book on amazon - have just skimmed it so far (when time to read?) but it's certainly making me think again about starting baby snowboarder on some pear puree at 5 months....so maybe he's ok until 6 months? And maybe forget the puree? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7748-baby-led-weaning-book/#findComment-242484 Share on other sites

verds
Talking of baby lead weaning...BabyVerds is 5.5 months old too and I'm just getting her used to the highchair, ready for finger foods. But today I went to the health visitor, who said to give baby rice at 5 months. I'm really disappointed, as I've just read Gill Rapley's book and it makes sense to me! I don't think a bit of baby rice is going to fill her up, and I was looking forward to carrot and brocolli trees, etc... Did anyone else get all kinds of conflicting advice? Moos
All the time!My understanding is that food is really just to get them used to eating solids at this age - they rely still on lots of milk for nutrition. So whether it's vegetables or rice is really up to you. No why do they say that when the DOH advice is 6m? And research shows waiting till 6m reduces the incidence of obesity/ heart disease as an adult?Stick to 6m, and start with pieces of soft veg. Belle
grr, don't get me started on HVs' crap advice...just spoke to a friend recently whose baby was premature, and who's going back to work at 6 months,a nd they advised her to wean at 4 months so it's 'all sorted out by the time she's in nursery'. For a baby who was really early! Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/7748-baby-led-weaning-book/#findComment-243680 Share on other sites
