Hi there,

I'd like to spread word about our new community run, independent, international film festival! From the 12th-15th of November we will be showing a variety of films from countries all around the world (Argentina to New Zealand, Bulgaria to Indonesia).

This event is the first of it's kind and will kick off with a film premiere at the Constitutional Club in Dulwich with live music, tango and food from Argentina!

Feel free to ask more about the festival on this thread or take a look at our website http://www.southsocialfilmfestival.co.uk/festival-2015

Thanks!

Goodness there are a lot of films showing in Dulwich in November! The Bigger Picture http://www.thebiggerpic.co.uk/, Dulwich's local film club is combining a screening of The Big Labowski with a free bowing alley, a free White Russian, themed food and drink, a raffle, voluntary dressing gowns.... an amazing event, all for ?9.

Its above the East Dulwich Tavern, 1 Lordship Lane. Lovely comfy sofas!

The Bigger Picture has been going for nearly 4 years and is run by local volunteers all keen to offer an alternative to mainstream cinema and raise money for local charities. Only last month we gave ?500 to Art in the Park. Local businesses are keen to be associated with us, offering free raffle prizes at every screening. https://www.facebook.com/thebiggerpic/

And on 19 November we are screening Whiplash - the drumming extravaganza, with the drummer from Katrina and the Waves (Walking on Sunshine) coming to answer questions and give tips! Tickets ?7.

Hattie, how much are your tickets? Its hard to find this on your website.

Hi Bigger Picture! It's so exciting that we have a community full of people who love cinema! The Bigger Picture sounds so cool. We have 2 ticket tiers which include the film, music and food. The tickets can be found on our website http://www.southsocialfilmfestival.co.uk/hearts-of-tango or here: https://billetto.co.uk/en/events/opening-night-hearts-of-tango

Go Dulwich!

Hi Ingrid,

I know it is pricey but it covers the screening, food, drink and live music and some premieres will have Q&As with talent from the film, something special which we think is worth it. As this is our first year and we are just trying to get this off the ground we are hoping to reduce prices with the next festival!

Thanks for the feedback,

Hattie

    • Well I did say I stand to be corrected! Fair enough, their website only seemed to list three branches. Perhaps it's a franchise model?  It's known as 'agglomeration' in economics Rookie error.
    • I didn't know there was a word for that — thanks!
    • This is just normal business behaviour. That's why there are so many coffee shops in ED and shops selling gifts and interiors stuff, clothes, restaurants.  If there's more than one business of a similar type then it can benefit all of them up to a saturation point and keep up quality. It's all sounding like many think Chango has made a malicious move when it actually sounds like it's owned by one guy who has a good business that has done well.   Anyway this is all great advertising for both empanada places. Very close by is the organic grocer who sells really good value and very tasty samosas and other Indian snacks which are also worth trying.
