Some ludicrous suggestions here! The original poster was correct in the first place, drive to Canada water and park in the cinema. I live in Nunhead and do this journey myself, far quicker and cheaper than any of the suggestions here.

The drive to Can water takes 15 minutes from Nunhead station.

It was an easy journey until they closed the East London Line, which whisked you up to Canary Wharf from New Cross Gate in no time at all. That will be re opening supposedly in December. I'd rather use public transport, and the thought of driving to Canada Water would add so much time to the journey. I found that if I cycled or drive to Deptford Bridge, there's parking just off Friendly Street Taking the DLR was quick and cheap only a pound gets you to Canary Wharf in no time.

People whinge on about transport in London, I don't buy it. The other night I left Kensal Rise at 11.45 and got home to Nunhead in just over an hour the buses were flying and safe and comfortable. Try living in a country town then you'll know all about it.

    • I've not engaged in this debate so far but you can't be more wrong. In the UK our own language is English, there is a small minority who can rightly claim their language is Welsh or Gaelic, and a couple Cornish. British Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Christians, atheists etc will usually speak British, even if not their first language.  The vast majority will be able to understand English.   A small percentage, less than two percent, of people living in the UK have little or no English (census data).  It is right that in certain situations eg schools there is signage and information in other languages, providing public information. It is wrong that a political party do this, particularly one who came across as opportunist on this occasion. There is an interesting conversation about British expats living, for example, on the continent, where I expect huge swathes who can hardly say a word of French, Spanish etc.
