cath balan
Hello everyone. Not sure if this is the correct forum but pets are family so calling all cat lovers!! My beautiful moggy is pregnant and about to have kittens. I am also pregnant and understand it is not advisable to be involved in weaning kittens in my 'condition'!! I love my cat very much and was wondering if anyone would like to look after her and the kittens for a couple of months? I would pay for their food and that kind person would be offered their choice of the litter!! Our cat is lovely natured and extremely affectionate - I don't want to give her to a charity where she won't receive the love she needs. She is fully litter trained and no trouble at all. Nice kind cat loving persons to reply only!! sillywoman
Hi Cath, we lost our much loved family cat last year to old age and are just about to start looking for new kitten(s). If you think your cat would be comfortable with us then I'm sure we could look after her and her brood for her 'lying in'! We have a house with a small garden, and we have 4 children. The youngest is 5 and the eldest is 13 - all have been brought up around cats so know about no teasing, no sudden movements and being quiet(ish around them). Also they're all at school so the house is quiet during the day. If you like you could come and visit to check us out, PM me if you're interested. cath balan
Fairly well known cos of risk of infection/toxoplasmosis - would prefer not to take the risk. Anyhow, unfortunately we still haven't found her a home so will continue to look after her here. sillywoman
Due to violent adverse response from really, really grumpy husband I won't be able to have Cath's adorable cat. I am gutted, daughter is in tears and Cath is back in a tricky situation. Is there anyone else who might consider fostering her for a few months? Pickle
I had a kitten when I was pregnant - we got him after I knew I was expecting. If you are sensible (wear gloves when dealing with litter trays, or better still delegate that duty to someone else ;-) ) the risk is very very small. Having grown up with cats I was told by my GP that chances are I would be immune anyway. In all honesty you're more likely to catch toxoplasmosis outside of your own home without realising you've even been exposed (in parks, other peoples gardens etc.) than you are when dealing with your own kittens and taking precautions.Just thought it was worth a mention, as if I was in your situation I would keep them!Good luck.P x Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/8126-beautiful-long-haired-pregnant-cat-needs-temporary-re-homing/#findComment-252152 Share on other sites
cath balan
Thanks for everyone's comments but am sure we will cope! And sillywoman - please dont worry - I know how keen you and your daughter were to look after her... but can understand hubby's point of view as well!! Your daughter is of course welcome to come and see her whenever she wants (and if she is allowed a kitten when she finally drops, all the better!). Pugwash
I also had cats when I was pregnant - advise from GP/Health Visitor etc. Get someone else to clean out the litter tray, or if you have to do it, wear disposible gloves. Wash cat bowls etc seperately from family china, and wash hands after each contact with cat/kitten. I would not foster cat out - may ruin a 'good relationship' with her. cath balan
Hello everyone! Just to let you know that my cat had 5 kittens - unfortunately 2 were dead at birth but 3 are alive and well! I am not entirely sure what sex they are - they all look the same so either 3 boys or girls!! Hopefully it will become clearer in next few weeks...One is pale ginger and the other 2 are mottled dark brown. All look like they will be quite fluffy. I will post pictures once they've opened their eyes and look a bit prettier! If anyone is interested (I have had a few emails) I will be selling them for ?50 each - this is to cover vet bills for the mother. Welcome to come and visit in about 3 weeks when their immune systems are stronger. Michelle299
congrates on the kittens, I am glad you still kept your cat at home as I am sure she would have been stressed giving birth in a strange location and possibly lost all kittens. I have 8 cats at present 1 being a kitten of 13 weeks, all of which are rescued/abandoned I hope with the money from the kittens (hopefully rehomed to vetted people) you will get your cat neutered to stop any further cats. sorry to be a moaner but having rescued the cats I have and having the expense of the food / litter vet bills as all the cats needed vetenary care due to cat flu, injuries through neglect / cruelty etc. not everyone sees a cat as a living creature that needs to be looked after and as there are so many unwanted cats / dogs the only responsible thing to do is to get your animal neutered and ensure all yearly injections are maintained.
