"The women fell foul of new legislation set out in Labour's Childcare Act 2006 that prevents anyone from gaining a "reward" for looking after someone's children for more than two hours away from the child's home, unless they register with Ofsted and follow the normal childminder rules."

I think having them look after your child in exchange is the reward!

Agree with everything that's been said, and also did you see "They are thought to have been reported to Ofsted by a neighbour"?

It's a minor point, but what possible good could the neighbour have thought he or she was doing? It frightens me the way the increasingly stringent laws seem to be becoming interpreted so that anyone not cleared by CRB checks must almost by definition be doing wrong, and a possible child abuser or neglectful parent.

    • Is Dell Autos closing down completely or just moving? For whatever it's worth, for MOTs I've had good recent experience with The Test Centre in Deptford. They only do MOTs so they don't have any particular incentive to fail you and they usually have same day appointments. Open 7 days a week and late. https://www.thetestcentre.co.uk/our-test-centres/deptford-branch/ Obviously you would still need a "normal" garage to do servicing and repairs etc.
    • So what is the issue? You want compensation for the loss of value, or you want to expedite the matter?
    • No. What happened? I actually thought, considering it was what we used to call Guy Fawkes Day last night, the loud noises from  fireworks ended remarkably early. About 9pm? Maybe I just fell asleep and didn't hear any later ones. Do people actually burn Guys any more? Apart from at places like Lewes, where I believe they still have Bonfire Societies and burn effigies of various political figures etc.
    • The accompaniment to our "Christmas Pudding" aka Nothing-Whatever-Like-A- Christmas-Pudding last year  at The Cherry Tree was "brandy butter ice-cream." If it had ever been near any brandy, the brandy must have been waved in its direction from a very great distance. Same with butter. The ice cream tasted like bog standard "vanilla" from a catering tub. At least it did bear some resemblance to ice cream. Whereas the "Christmas Pudding" bore no resemblance whatever to any Christmas Pudding I have ever seen or tasted in my many  decades of seeing and tasting Christmas Puddings. Oh, and Cinzano Bianco. Bleurgh. My sister used to drink that. 🤢
