Lynne
Does anyone know the rules for commercial builders operating hours? I had it in mind that they weren't supposed to work on a Sunday, but I had a faceful/eyeful of dust from a house on North X Rd that was having it's brickwork cleaned yesterday.Don't suppose the neighbours were that happy Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/83265-permitted-builders-hours/ Share on other sites
Otta
Why wouldn't they be allowed to work on a Sunday? Noise? Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/83265-permitted-builders-hours/#findComment-926818 Share on other sites

Lynne
Ah. Thanks Red Devil and OttaAs to why they shouldn't, I would have thought the answer, in a very crowded area, was fairly obvious Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/83265-permitted-builders-hours/#findComment-926839 Share on other sites
Otta
But isn't it crowded throughout the week (more so on a Saturday probably). Just not sure why not on a Sunday.Wasn't trying to be funny, it was a genuine question, and not that obvious to me. Lynne
OK. I suppose the reason is that we'd all like a day off, if there's been building work nearby. And in ED, where isn't there building work? It can really get on one's nerves after 5 days of it. I speak from experience. And builders need a day off too. Rushed jobs + tiredness = accidents Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/83265-permitted-builders-hours/#findComment-927079 Share on other sites
red devil
It must hark back to when Sunday was traditionally a day of rest, the Sabbath, no one worked, shops were closed etc... LondonMix
I agree with red devil. Its almost most certainly that. Link to comment https://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/topic/83265-permitted-builders-hours/#findComment-927140 Share on other sites

I think its to protect our weekends as time to relax and enjoy the garden etc - noise free preferably. Personally I don't care about the Sabbath - but it is good for society if we coordinate our down time. uncleglen
As well as the operating hours they are also supposed to minimise the pollution by containing dust. I reckon the fact that we have the third worst death rate from asthma in the EU is partly due to uncontrolled building work, and rules not being enforced, and the builders are not aware of the rules or choose to ignore them until a concerned citizen phones the Council.
