Hi

At this month's get-together of the South London Lesbian Mums group, we're delighted to host award winning illustrator, Garry Parsons.

Garry's Talk is a light hearted insight into the working life of an illustrator with fun interaction for the kids and lots of drawing. He will be talking and drawing about the books he has made and passing on illustration secrets and drawing tips.

There will be plenty of opportunity for the kids to take part and practice their own illustrations!

If you're a lesbian family, you're very welcome to come along. It's on Sunday 14th February in East Dulwich, 3-5pm. To find out where exactly, please PM me.

Garry Parsons is an award winning illustrator of books for children including the best selling picture book ?The Dinosaur that Pooped Christmas? by Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter. Garry?s illustrations have accompanied the words of many prestigious writers of children?s literature including Kes Gray, Jeanne Willis, Ian Whybrow, Peter Bently, Julia Jarman, Julia Donaldson and for older readers Josh Lacey in ?The Dragonsitter? series and Lucy and Stephen Hawking in the space adventure series ?George?s Secret Key to the Universe.

Hi

Yes it's free!

If it's your first time with the group it's free, so you can see if you like the group.

If you then wanted to join the group, we ask for an annual membership of ?30 (or ?15 for single mums) to cover costs of the hall hire, snacks/drinks. We're a non-for-profit group run by volunteers and most of our group meeting are held in a safe hall hired just for us. We also organise additional events like pub drinks for mums, days out with the kids (pantomine, picnic, etc) and camping weekends.

So feel free to come and join us on the 14th with Garry Parsons. PM me if you want to know more details.

    • Oh yes, Dawson Heights is such a cool building! The location isn't right for us, but those flats are lovely. I'm determined to make it to The Modern House with our future not-yet-fashionable ex-LA flat, like some of the Dawson Heights residents did 🙂

Of course every new government comes in and says waste has to be reduced, efficiency increased, often with a tightening of purse strings. I'm talking UK here, But the US will surely have similar processes in place.  Obviously things go wrong from time to time, and that is what tends to make the papers/socials rather than the things that go right.  Foreign aid was cut from the target of 0.7% to 0.5%, following Covid, stats from two years ago are here (not a riveting read): https://www.gov.uk/government/statistics/statistics-on-international-development-final-uk-aid-spend-2022/statistics-on-international-development-final-uk-aid-spend-2022
