Just wanted to alert people that we were burgled this evening. Looks like they came from Alleyns playing fields, through our neighbours garden to access ours and then forced a sash window. I may have disturbed them as car was still outside when I got home at 7.50pm but wasn't when my husband came back just before 10.

Obviously very quick and clean as I didn't notice sign of a search at all and it was only when we realised the car was missing that we saw footprints in the spare room and noticed things had gone.

Aandl,

So sorry for such a horrible experience. There seems to be a major surge in burglaries in the area. I hope you are fully compensated for your losses. Neighbours need to stick together and keep an eye on each others properties. It's a way older and retired folk can really help, when younger families and homeowners are out at work.

Copied from another burglary thread but still very relevant to this one!

"Sifting through all the burglary threads this morning makes for grim reading.

We've been done over several years ago (a 4.00am break-in while we slept upstairs and we didn't hear a thing until the stairs creaked right outside out bedroom) and my wife didn't sleep properly for months, years afterwards, imagining noises of all sorts in the dark.

But I would agree with others in that if you leave things in sight of a window or letter box then it will eventually lead to someone having a go and all the devices and locks won't make the slightest difference.

As a result of our close escape from injury, we've gone to almost bonkers lengths to avoid a repeat but which I won't go into here and it's not until you've been through the same thing that you realise just how naive/stupid you were."

    • In case anyone is renovating or stripping out an old kitchen, I am looking for a base kitchen unit or carcass to house an oven for a temporary set up kitchen.   Also looking for a run of worktop at least 180 cm long if anyone is disposing of something like this, I would be happy to collect.   thanks   Mila
    • Big recommendation for Stephen Viccary who has created a magnificent bathroom for us. Quality of work is absolutely top notch. We couldn't be happier - see pics.  Stephen is considerate and tidy meaning working from home during the work was fine (some noise - obviously, it is a demo and installation after all. He does not work on multiple jobs, does a full days work and does ALL the work himself - Tiling, plumbing, lighting (including lighting on a motion sensor under the vanity and in the shower niche - for night time visits 😉), he even changed the door architraves, sorted the badly cracked ceiling and did all the paint work. A full end to end service. Stephen's number - 07941 266 145
    • Highly recommend Dulwich Eco Gardening.  When he came to quote Saied said he’d give our garden back so we could decide what we do next.  Under two weeks of hard work from Saied and Mo and we have the garden back and can see paving I’d forgotten about. Not only did Saied remove our very overgrown greenery. Nature had taken over. He also took back to our fence line overgrown ivy, apple and pear trees and and dealt with a neighbours bamboo that had invaded our garden.  We are now going to get quotes for what we do next so those quoting will be able to see the space.  Saied has suggested someone to quote and will be coming back when he does in case he has any questions or they can work together.  I thought Saied would be a good choice and he was. Quotes from others didn’t leave me with confidence for the end result. That was never a concern with Saied.
