I've just pledged some money on Kickstarter for a film project I'd really like to see the result of! It's got the double attraction of being done by someone local who is becoming well known as an actor (if you went to the National/ED Picture House to see Man & Superman, you'll have seen him) and is being filmed not far away. Seeing as how I was motivated enough to offer support, I thought others might feel the same so here's a bit of the website pitch:

"The film is 15min in real time and is set in an estate in Peckham where I grew up. It captures estate life and different people's stories. The twist is every single word spoken is Shakespeare. I have gone through THE complete WORKS of Shakespeare and woven together a story using only his words. Given that it's the 400th year of his death in 2016 I thought now was the time."

Here's a link to the kickstarter page: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2132164114/the-works-short-film/description

(The way it works is if he doesn't get all the backing he needs, no-one's pledge is redeemed)

What's more, if it gets fully funded, I'll be a Christmas Angel!

There was an interview with the film's main man on London Live and it can be seen again here:

I just checked the Kickstarter site and the project has got 60 backers so far, but it's still ?6k short and only 8 days left. If anyone reading this knows someone who might be interested in getting their name on the credits, do point them in the direction of the site. And Zak, you are right, he seems to have a part in Jericho.

I've just had a look at the Kickstarter page and I see that over ?8,500 has now been raised out of the ?13,500 that the project needs (including my small contribution, made after I watched the interview and pitch video.

That's pretty fantastic, but the only problem is that according to the Kickstarter site, the remaining ?5,000 has to be raised by midnight on Thursday or it's all been in vain.

Anyone else feel as I do that we should be supporting a local talent who is in his turn supporting the local community? https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/2132164114/the-works-short-film/description is the place to go if you agree.

Well, this is really getting close now.... I just looked at the Kickstarter site and in the last 24 hours, the pledges have jumped to ?10k - one final push and it could get there. (With absolutely no good reason, I've started to take this personally, now!)

So, tell your friends, get the word out and though the person with the idea and drive to start the project doesn't even know any of us, we could make the difference - we could help introduce Shakespeare to a new generation that can relate to stories told by people they can identify with.

Angel wings all round!

Well, the Kickstarter page has closed and by midday, 108 backers had pledged ?13,605 to help bring this project to life. Watch out for more news - it's bound to make the Peckham Peculiar, if not the Standard though any of you who backed it will probably get updates via e-mail anyway.

Well done all.

    • Hello - If anybody has any hifi valve amplifiers, working or in need of restoration, I'm keen to buy such things from you! I particularly like amps from the 50s and 60s, the sort of thing you used to find in old sideboards, but ultimately anything with glass tubes sticking out of them is of interest to me. I am also in the market for good quality hifi items in general, particularly faulty items in need of fixing and restoration. This includes turntables, amplifiers, cd players, speakers, graphic EQs, cassette players, reel to reel players, etc. etc. Ultimately, all electronic musical objects are of intrigue to me. Many thanks, and hope to hear from you soon, -Scott 07956 853 538
    • Using the smart CCTV cameras is your best strategy - particularly if they have adequate infra-red capability. Setting them to be triggered by line crossing or areas of intrusion is worthwhile setting up as is linking them to a PIR sensor. The PIR could also be used to activate a sounder but that might upset your other neighbours. I have a few cameras around our property and I enjoy reviewing the recordings and apart from foxes and birds, I catch the occasional opportunistic thief on camera - like this one last Tuesday. If you need any help, please drop me a PM. S7.mp4
    • Not in Ed, but I was in NE England over the weekend and saw an otter in the wild! Never seen one before, it was quite lovely.
    • Well unless the heron got them later, there were the  two cootlets. I think some others of this year's babies must have escaped the heron. Many years ago (and possibly still, though I never see them any more) there was a whole heron family on the island  - mum, dad and youngster. I don't know how long herons live. Maybe this one is the grown up youngster.
