Hi forum

My kids (3 and 6) attend La Jolie Ronde classes weekly but I'm not sure they're actually picking much up and am wondering if I might be better spending the money on having someone come to us and do a one-to-one (actually one-to-two) lesson.

Has anyone done something similar with similar aged kids? Are there tutors around who would do a home visit for just a half hour lesson (I think an hour would be too long)?

I would hope to find a tutor who is up to speed with how young kids learn, and who could make it a fun experience rather than a chore.

If anyone has any advice or recommendations, I'd love to hear them - thanks in advance!

I think that whichever lessons you choose, group or individual, the difference will be made by talking with them about and singing/listening to the songs etc in between the lessons. Also, at that young age the language is soaking in a different way I think; so whereas an older child or adult student may come out saying 'today I learnt X & Y' a small child may not be able to tell you much about their lesson but may well confidently join in with basic conversation and songs when they return next week.
French is no doubt the most traditional second language for us Brits but I just wanted to point out that many secondaries these days also focus heavily on Spanish and German. I have two in secondary and was mildly surprised that they weren't even offered French but do Spanish and Latin by default and one did German in an after school club.

I have a few French tutors available if you are interested in discussing the private tuition option. Could maybe set up a small group session. Please email or call for more information.

Thanks, Fran
