We went on Winterville's rink last year and I agree it was really not fun to skate on. Tiny, too.

Somerset House is better and very beautiful/Christmassy (but also small), as is the Winter Wonderland rink in Hyde Park, which is bigger. I've also heard good things about the one in Canary Wharf but not been.

However, I agree Streatham is best if you want a really big, smooth rink, though it can get crowded in the run-up to Christmas and it's a bit municipal in atmosphere. Still love it there though!

Somerset House is the best outdoor for atmosphere. And Fortnum & Mason has a great pop-up shop there. Also lovely cafes with Fernandez & Wells, Rinkside & F&M cafes.

Canary Wharf is usually good and less crowded but haven't been this year yet.

Streatham is best indoor rink. Friendly crowd though it does get crowded this time of year. Prefer it from Feb/Mar to Nov : )

    • My partner parked in a loading bay in Orpheus Street SE5 to get some heavy items from Cowling & Wilcox Art Supplies for his business. The whole transaction took less than 5 minutes. He came back, loaded and left - with a fine for parking in a loading bay “without loading within 2 minutes”!!  He made an online appeal but it was turned down- letter attached.   I think the main points he contested are;   You can’t walk to C&W, pick up a box and walk back in 2 minutes, so how can ‘evidence of loading be seen’ in that time? They were not ‘general domestic shopping.’ They were bulky and heavy. The vehicle was moved immediately on returning to it with the goods. So, he met ALL the criteria they have stipulated as reasons for issuing the PCN. If anyone has successfully or unsuccessfully  appealed against a similar loading bay fine do let me know, thanks!
