Lovely vintage/antique French bateau lit in solid cherrywood

Recommended Posts

Lovely vintage/antique French bateau lit in solid cherrywood with original decorative edging and metal bolts. Estimated to date from the early 20th century and most likely made locally to St Savinien, a small village in the Charente Maritime where we bought it from the original owner when buying an old Charentaise farmhouse in 2003. The wood has a warm patina with some age marks and old (treated) woodworm holes which add to its character. It is a single bed perfect as a day bed or child's bed. We are sadly selling after returning to the UK to a smaller property.

Dimensions

104cm high at each end

External L203cm, W98cm

Internal L190cm, W90cm

Pine support boards included (please note these are individual and untreated) Mattress is not included.

Thanks Carolyn. And I hope you're not offended, but others I've been looking at, and are renovated, sell for less, like this example http://www.the-saleroom.com/en-gb/auction-catalogues/grand-auctions/catalogue-id-srgran10007/lot-75cd7f61-602d-4711-81bc-a442018491a9

Would you consider ?300 please? I think that's the maximum I would be prepared to pay.

Regards

Catherine

Thanks and sorry to be persistent but I've looked at various antique sites, and on eBay, to make comparisons and there are some really nice examples which are considerably cheaper http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/French-Antique-Wooden-Bed-/252231776586?hash=item3aba2f794a:g:BHMAAOSwLzdWTbu2 I do like yours and because it's local and convenient I would be willing to pay ?320 but I am afraid I can't justify more than that. Please let me know if that would be acceptable.

Catherine

    • Hi, I saw your post and just wanted to say that the incident you’re referring to did happen in the late 1980s at Dawson’s Heights. The person involved was named Carl Salawa, and he had just turned 18 years old at the time. Like you, I haven’t been able to find any news articles or official reports about it, If anyone remembers anything more about that time or incident, I’d really appreciate hearing about it. Thanks for sharing what you were told—it means a lot to know others remember.
    • Was anyone else disturbed last night/early hours this morning by the party going on in someone’s garden on Crystal Palace road. Can’t see what house exactly but it’s around number 43 - 41… it was happening quite frequently last year. Seems it’s starting again! Very inconsiderate.
