Dry January is for wimps, come on it's nearly the weekend get out there & knock them drinks back...LOL

I am joking & apologise that was cruel of me, i couldn't resist.

Well done whoever has made it to DAY 14 you are doing so well!

I tried a few years ago, only managed about 5 days naughty me.

Not sure about that - I don't mean Foxy - but genuine alcoholics go decades without a drink and fear what happens if they have another one -

I guess you could be pedantic and say you cant be dependent upon alcohol if you aren't having any but i'm not sure that's what the term means. I think it means its an almost daily part of your life generally, but you manage it?

There is doubt the Type-2 diabetes be reversed. They refuse to admit that doing so is possible but at the same

time tests would suggest I am no longer Type-2 and if I were to be tested for Type -2 it would come back negative.

Its a bit like saying once an alcoholic -- always an alcoholic..

Perhaps they just don't want to admit that my initial diagnosis may of been wrong..

Alcoholism can be (and more often than not is) psychological. Alcoholism is a different thing to alcohol dependence.

We are all told to have 2-3 days alcohol free each week..

Since I retired in 2008 apart from shopping and my daily walk 5,000+ steps I spend too much time indoors.

My nightly excursions are mostly for social reasons. Let people see I am still alive.

Its been many years (20+) since I was last even remotely drunk ?

I was not even aware of the term Dry January. It was a financial thing after being hit with over ?400.00

of unexpected bills on top of Xmas expenditure.

I have no intention of giving up entirely. I started cutting down around 2011..

I won't be out tonight.. Tomorrow in The Bishop.. alcohol free..

Looking forward to all the complimentary beers from Forumites on my return to normality. :)

There was a recent programme on channel 5 where a number of alcoholics told their stories.

Did anybody else see it?

I thought it was very moving and totally inspiring in some cases.They included a GP, a burglar and a cellist.

On the other hand it did make me think maybe I'm not so bad after all - one of them used to drink two bottles of wine before going to work! How can your body handle that?

My son told me about Irish people not drinking in January after the excesses of Xmas- he found out about this after he dated an Irish girl 10 years ago, -it took long enough to catch on here.

Well that's it...

Both The EDT and The Bishop have run out of Alcohol Free Beer. I have drunk the 6 bottles from both pubs

that have stood there for 12 months previously undrunk...

I have resorted to Lime and Soda..

Sparkling water and lime with ice and a slice is what I used to drink in bars when I was off the sauce many moons ago because in the main and especially in those days alcohol free beer is pretty rancid.

There are some decent alcohol free beers these days. But the pubs take the piss and charge pretty much what they'd charge for the real thing (whereas in shops they're way cheaper).

Becks Blue 275ml 50p Tesco ?2.65 The Bishop

Barvaria 330ml 50p Tesco ?3.50 The E.D.T.

Big mark up even if the pubs bought it from Tesco..

Yeh well, you don't get a seat and your drink handed to you with a glass in a pub with music or sport on, heating and (hopefully) good company in Tesco, do you ?!

ETA: Unless you want to crack open a couple of bottles there, sit on the belt and ask the checkout operator to join you in an alcohol free beer :))

330ml bottle of Alc Free Tesco - .50p Pub - ?3.50 7 x the price..

Not sure as I never drink bottled beers in pubs but ?3.95 - ?4.25 seems to be the average..

Bottled beers are strange..

... Typically some Indian Restaurants are Charges ?3.95 for 330ml Kingfisher and ?4.95 for 660ml.

Foxy, have you requested more alcohol free beer be available in the pubs you have mentioned? As I understand it these pubs will supply whatever 'craft' beers the beards ask for. As the prices for these drinks are in the same region it seems only fair that more/different types should be provided on request.

Also, if Govt think alcohol is so damaging to health then maybe they should legislate and cap the max price of non alchy beer to prevent greedy pubs robbing month long non drinkers

No I haven't.. It's not really an issue.. I suspect I am not the only person in E.D. not drinking this Month.

It is likely more people have resorted to drinking alcohol free beer. I occasionally drink it if circumstances

so prevail.

... I was never consciously doing 'Dry January' It was just a personal challenge that has proved to be easier

than I imagined. I have got out of the habit of going down the pub every night..
