An ex of mine came from a family heavily into traditional dancing (from the North). Not Morris though. They laughed in the face of Morris. Apparently Morris was a bit of a joke; akin to playing a viola.

Of course, to the impartial observer looking in - it all looks the bloody same.

There are dozens of Morris Traditions from all over England.. Possibly originating from Moorish The Moors...Spain.

Foxy

Can't remember the exact variety. I remember I said 'Morris' once - a caught a few sharp words, like I'd just shat in their collective face or something. Morris men (mostly down south) were all shandy drinking pig-shaggers etc. It was quite competitive.

Anyway, it mostly seemed to be an excuse to go out and drink lots and lots of beer - I'm sure that was the same north or south.

Everyone has a snigger these days if the Morris Mob arrive down the pub waving their sticks and jingling their bells. I suppose it was different in the old days when a troupe consisted of a dozen burly miners built like brick shitters and just on their 10th pint.

'Most pubs in East Dulwich are pretty dire' Really??

It depends how much you have had to drink.... :) they are a bit dire when you enter and get better the longer you stay and they get a bit wobbly on the way out.

Yes.. I too have got into the habit of staying in more .. but that may well be due to the cold weather..

Perhaps June would be more difficult ..

I have a massive confession. I don't really like going to pubs anymore I was bought up in a pub going extended family and the pub was central to my life for most of my teenage years and the majority of my adult life. Nowadays I can't understand the attraction of going night after night or staying out until the early hours in pubs. I don't mind going out once in a while to the pub but in general it's a boring money drain and I'd rather do something else. There. I said it. I feel liberated an am embracing my grumpy old man.

    • It didn't occur to me to ask. No idea if dieticians are employed within the NHS. It is just one line of enquiry among others. The GP mentioned it, not me.
    • I thought the most they sell in terms of hot food at londis is like pastries and sausage rolls and for hot drinks its like costa coffee but its always a convenience store. Doesn’t look too bad in my opinion considering that shop has been closed down ever since i moved here
    • Hi Busterb, Yesterday I turned up with a scanner & towels, hoping to take a deceased tabby down to TNV. The body was moved moments before arrival & had not been turned in to any vets, rescues or animal hospitals. I am wondering if this could have been the same cat & if someone just tried to move the tabby further away from the road. Please be warned, viewers discretion is advised. but this is what the deceased tabby looked like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/900015513463302/permalink/3729980853800073/  In any case, if you haven't been able to get someone to scan or take down to a vet, I can scan tomorrow morning.
    • Wholeheartedly recommend Aria. He was polite, responsive and sorted our leak, from an old tap on an old plumbing system, with no bother and on same day.
