Painting and Drawing for the Young Artist with the Dulwich Art Group

After school art club for children ages 7-11

Course leader - Claire Wright

Thursday afternoons 7th January - 17th March

4.15pm - 5.45pm (1? hours)

At the Copleston Centre, Copleston Road SE15 4AN

All children are artists. Give them the right stimulation, some good materials and they are off. Seeing what other children do around them and being shown new ways of image making helps them to explore their own visual responses to the world around them and to gain useful new skills as they go.

? Drawing in pencil, crayon, ink, pastel

? Painting in watercolour, tempera and acrylic.

? Mixed media and collage

? Print making

? Drawing and painting from life and the interior world

By nurturing a child's natural creativity we also help them to develop life tools that will bring rewards throughout their lives:

* Spontaneous problem solving,

* Having the confidence to speak with their own voice,

* An enduring love of visual beauty which informs all that they do

* An inner sense of ?rightness?,

* The ability to sustain attention

* Developing a process from observation to action.

* The freedom to drop redundant approaches and move on

* Maintaining ?play? as a relevant mental structure into maturity

At the Dulwich Art Group we believe that a combination of demonstration, explanation and personal exploration are the keys to learning in the visual arts and that learning to see is the central component.

Children will be introduced to drawing and painting from life and imagination in a variety of media. They will begin to develop the craft skills required to show others what they have seen. They will be encouraged to reflect upon and talk about what they have produced. They will have a great deal of fun in a safe and purposeful atmosphere and will produce work that will support them in applications to secondary school.

    • Anyone can deliver for Evri - my daughter having just passed her driving test tried Evri to make some money - they basically give you a route and as many parcels as they think you can cope with - you make money for each one you deliver, so you can imagine - speed is the priority. Why would they wait for you to answer the door when they can just throw it and take a photo? If you have a choice, choose a different courier service or shop elsewhere where they do.
    • Boil - it’s the customer’s fault, not the delivery person’s.
    • A bit of a long shot but I'm on the lookout for a portable pop-up counter or podium.   The kind you often see on a high street, used by charities or utility companies to advertise their wares.   I've included a photo to give you the idea. I'm a peckham-based artist and am looking for one for a free (and non-profit) community art project.  It can be in any workable condition and can already have signage on it as we will remove and redecorate ourselves.    Thanks in advance, Linzie
    • No I absolutely did not - that much is clear. Have you read the latest stories about Unite, Len and the hotel in Birmingham? The UK electorate were smart enough to reject a far-left party in 2019, let's hope they are smart enough to reject a far-right party at the next election too. If not we are all doomed.
