Just been told by the bank that my card has been cloned and I think I have traced it back to Sunday morning when I tried to use Barclays cashpoint on 'the lane'. I thought it a bit wierd as it took my pin number then said it couldn't dispense any cash - not due to my finances - surely it would have said out of order, or whatever, before you put the card in and give pin number. I did completely cover my hand so god knows how they do it now-a-days. Anyone else had any probs?

I used the barclays machine on Saturday, the one for giants on the right, and went through all the steps before telling me there was no cash available. No fraud attempts on my account as of yet. Not convinced I'd class that as unusual behaviour for an ATM more irritating

There is a man-in-the-middle attack whereby a thin "shim" is inserted into the slot to intercept information passing between the credit card and the ATM, which is then transmitted to a third party via a bluetooth-like link.

It might be worth bringing your suspicions to the attention of the branch - the report may prove useful in the event that your credit card was cloned.

Definitely keep an eye on your online transaction statements. I used the machine on LL last year and noticed the green light under the card slot wasn't flashing. As soon as i landed after being on holiday in Portugal i had a call from HSBC fraud saying that my card had been used in India at the same time as i had done when i was on holiday. Luckily the funds were credited back to my account within 24 hours.

    • Wow..has this forum gone down the pan..  Admin??  Two topics which do not make any sense at all.. Survey Horniman and asking for fireworks..       Sorry for fireworks - did not read clearly - my mistake wanted tickets..

    • That’s interesting, Dulwich Dweller; my 70 yr old neighbour told me 2 weeks ago that he’d left work early to go and book in person (being uncomfortable with all the online & app stuff) and was explicitly told that he needed to go away and book online. He’s not the sort of person to be insistent and, like a lot of older people, a bit embarrassed at his lack of digital ability, so he left without the appointment . This is my point about inconsistency, since his experience was quite different from yours. I’m beginning think that it rather depends on who, at Reception, you speak to on day…
    • Wow, never had a disappointing meal there since they opened.. guess like every establishment, depends on the chef..
