Christmas lights in Upland Road

Why has the Council installed Christmas street lights in Northcross Road and neglected the shops and businesses in Upland Road?

Several of the shops are asking residents and other interested parties to sign a petition requesting that the Council install Christmas lights in Upland Road . Your support would be well appreciated.

Are you sure that it's the council that has put lights in North Cross Road?

If so I shall complain as they're rubbish :))

Southwark Council has put up many thousands of Christmas light across Southwark.

I'm sorry the request for lights along Upland Road has come so late.

I will find out whether any are held back and can be used and whether surplus budget exists to install, maintain and remove them.

That would be great, James. I fully support the call for lights in Upland Road as I walk down there two or three times a day from Barry Road to Lordship Lane.

Any help would be well appreciated Mr.Barber. I did email you and five other local Councilors about this several days ago.A petition supporting the request for Xmas lights is taking place at many of the shops in Upland Road. Many of the people signing are probably your constituents . Would you like a copy of the petitions?

I live just off upland road. It would be nice to have some down this end!

To place christmas lights every lamp column used has to be checked structurally to ensure it can take the extra weight at the top of the lamp post. Also, the electrics have to be checked to ensure they can pass the extra load.

We've agreed to arrange for these checks to take place. It wont happen before christmas this year but expect late winter/spring and then we'll know what the cost of ensuring christmas lights for Upland Road 2010 will be.

Any other East Dulwich locations that should have Cristmas lights?

I agree that the xmas lights are rubbish. they have used the same ones every year for the last 12 years that ive been here and im sure they have been around at least as long as when fireworks were ok as christmas decorations!?? Im all for reusing things but cant we have something a bit more upmarket? Whats wrong with some plain lights around the poles? It makes me cringe every time i pass!

East Dulwich Xmas lights are coming up for replacement. Likely to use lots of LED's. Fingers crossed we can make the budgets work for 2010 allowing this.
