Thameslink trains - sign the petition for a decent service

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Sick of the dismal Thameslink service, particularly on the Catford Loop? I'm helping with a local campaign to get improvements, starting with the day to day task of running something like the timetable.

For those of an historical bent, or whose natural justice is easily offended, take a look at our slides which show how passenger numbers have shot up, yet the service remains substantially worse than in the 1950s. https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1p401EdjWd0TjfiSM_VCwKtB6-DRPQbdGkST66TG8c58/edit#slide=id.p3

We've got Vicky Foxcroft MP to a meeting on 6th Feb from 2pm at the Rivoli ballroom. Hope to see you there.

Signed. I use the service from Nunhead to City Thameslink or Blackfriars every day, over the last 8 years it has deteriorated dramatically, every train is overcrowded, ALWAYS late and often cancelled with no notification. I also notice that the South eastern service trains to Victoria seem to get priority, why? There may be extra passengers due to the work at London Bridge but that is no excuse.

I tweeted Thameslink to say they were the worst train service ... and they retweeted it, then their other company did too.

Are they proud of it ?

Signed, for what it's worth.

Worryingly - in the recent TfL announcement of takeovers of suburban lines, Sevenoaks TL seemed to not be included. When I contacted a local councilor, who had contributed to the Adonis' "Turning South London Orange", he wasn't clear on whether this would be the case. Certainly that study - which partly drove the TfL announcement, makes no mention of the Catford Loop trains. Think we might be stuck with TL for some time - though any improvement would be great.

    • Plastic flower pots full stop, have so many of them and most go into the recycling rather than being reused.
    • Flower pot sizes. Even ones that look as if they should fit together don't . Same with the saucers that go underneath them. Why aren't they standardised? GRRRRR. I made the mistake of starting to clear out my loft (I still have a pre-gentrification type loft). Now my (pre-gentrification type) kitchen is filled with zillions of flower pots and saucers. I am so irrationally enraged that I need to sit down with a nice cup of tea. I've just put the kettle on.
    • hah ha! On the subject of dodgy keys and also police protocol with stolen cars, my first car was a 1969 mini which you could open and start by wiggling a small flat-headed screwdriver. No wonder it was stolen. About a week later the police called to say they'd spotted it on the Dog Kennel Hill estate opposite East Dulwich station. In those days parking was free so at least I didn't receive any tickets, but I surprised the police just left a message with the address and expected me to go and pick it up. I was slightly worried I'd have to tackle the culprits myself when I arrived.
    • Great pub, great deals and great service! Food is second to none Highly recommend 👌
