My second baby is due in February 2010... With number one only 13 months old I am starting to feel slightly scared!! Haven't joined the NCT this time around as memories very fresh with baby number 1... Is anyone in a similar situation and wanting to swap advice/support/tea and cake?? Or any suggestions for groups to join?

Thanks

Rachel

Hi Rachel, and congratulations on the soon-to-be arrival!

You should contact the NCT to be put into a "2nd time Mums" tea group - I did when I had my 2nd baby (my 1st was just under 17 months when no. 2 arrived) and the group of Mums I met were brilliant. Everyone had quite similar age gaps, and it was nice being able to go round to each others houses to chat knowing that your toddler would be catered for and that everyone was going through the same thing. I still meet up with some of them now and have made some very good friends.

We didn't do NCT 2nd time round either, it all seemed just a little too fresh in my mind :)

My kids are now 18 months and nearly 3, so not babies anymore :( but if you fancy coming for a cuppa to get a glimpse of what your life will be like in 18 months time feel free!

Hi Rachel,

There is a bumps and babes group on monday mornings at the goose green community centre (behind the church). I'm mum to a 2 year old and we are expecting baby number 2 in april. I've been along to the group a few times and found it a great place to meet other pregnant mums with toddlers. It was a good opportunity to chat over a cup of tea! It's 10am -12pm (if I remember right) and is organised by the NCT but you don't have to be a member to go along.

best wishes,

Holly

my eldest was 14mths old when the second came along. They are now 22mths and 6mths. So having been through it recently (err going through!) I am happy to meet up and tell you my experience. I remember being very worried whilst pregnant with the second and didn't have a clue how to find out more. Remember googling 'two under two' and things like that. I joined a second mums coffe group as well. also found toddler classes, children centres, and an endless supply of new toys very helpful. pm me if you want to know more - its too horrid for public consumption. Only joking!....
  • 3 weeks later...
I am due in mid March and looking for other expectant mums-to-be (or mums already!), have joined NCT but trying to save pennies so don't want to do any expensive courses and trying to find others in same boat to meet up with for precious few months of maternity leave. Could you PM me with any local East Dulwich groups? I've read about jelly babies at Peckham Pulse and that sounds good but would like to find other tea & cake groups, pram pushing or similar :)

    • Actually I don't think so. What caused the problem was the ban on councils using the revenues from sales to build more houses. Had councils been able to reinvest in more housing then we would have had a boom in building. And councils would have been relieved, through the sales, of the cost of maintaining old housing stock. Thatcher believed that council tenants didn't vote Conservative, and home owners did. Which may have been, at the time a correct assumption. But it was the ban on councils building more from the sales revenues which was the real killer here. Not the sales themselves.
    • I agree with Jenjenjen. Guarantees are provided for works and services actually carried out; they are not an insurance policy for leaks anywhere else on the roof. Assuming that the rendering at the chimney stopped the leak that you asked the roofer to repair, then the guarantee will cover that rendering work. Indeed, if at some time in the future it leaked again at that exact same spot but by another cause, that would not be covered. Failure of rendering around a chimney is pretty common so, if re-rendering did resolve that leak, there is no particular reason to link it to the holes in the felt elsewhere across the roof.
    • Hey, I am on the first floor and I am directly impacted if roof leaks. We got a roofing company to do repair work which was supposed to be guaranteed. However, when it started leaking again, we were informed that the guarantee is just for a new roof and not repair work. Each time the company that did the repair work came out again over the next few years, we had to pay additional amounts. The roof continues to leak, so I have just organised another company to fix the roof instead, as the guarantee doesn't mean anything.
