Either head to Trastevere (the 'left bank' of the Tiber) to avoid the tourist traps, or the Testaccio district south-west of the Forum, which is gentrifying but still 'working class' with lots of good places to eat and drink. The good thing with Rome is that if you're not in the expensive or touristy parts of town, pretty much every restaurant/trattoria will be fine ? otherwise they'd go out of business :-)

There are plenty of tourist traps in Trastevere too, and lots of good restaurants even in the touristy areas. This place is near Piazza di Spagna, and is great for classic Roman food:

as is this place, which is on an island in the river:

You should also definitely try the ice cream from these two places (they each have a few branches):

    • Hi Busterb, Yesterday I turned up with a scanner & towels, hoping to take a deceased tabby down to TNV. The body was moved moments before arrival & had not been turned in to any vets, rescues or animal hospitals. I am wondering if this could have been the same cat & if someone just tried to move the tabby further away from the road. Please be warned, viewers discretion is advised. but this is what the deceased tabby looked like: https://www.facebook.com/groups/900015513463302/permalink/3729980853800073/  In any case, if you haven't been able to get someone to scan or take down to a vet, I can scan tomorrow morning.
    • Wholeheartedly recommend Aria. He was polite, responsive and sorted our leak, from an old tap on an old plumbing system, with no bother and on same day.
