Knowing what a well travelled bunch you are .... wondered whether anyone has any recent recommendations for New York restaurant for a birthday meal. Having googled it, the lists are endless.

Type of cuisine - not fussy, but fairly formal

Price - mid range/ideally no 2nd mortgage required

If it was within walking distance of 49th and Lexington that would be an added bonus

We lived in Manhattan for 20 years and just moved back to London. Best value cuisine in Manhattan tends to be Thai restaurants. Just West of the theater district (on the West Side (between 40th and 50th along Ninth Avenue) has loads of fun places and much better value than you'll find on the East Side.

A great resource is menupages.com where you can see the actual prices and user ratings, also Seamless.com for reviews and menus (it's a take-out site but good for reading about the food at various restaurants.)

Just back from a long weekend in New York and had a great brunch at ABC Kitchens - http://www.abchome.com/eat/abc-kitchen/

Also enjoyed a really nice birthday dinner at the Gramercy Tavern as someone else has recommended - http://www.gramercytavern.com/

Enjoy your trip!

    • Anyone can deliver for Evri - my daughter having just passed her driving test tried Evri to make some money - they basically give you a route and as many parcels as they think you can cope with - you make money for each one you deliver, so you can imagine - speed is the priority. Why would they wait for you to answer the door when they can just throw it and take a photo? If you have a choice, choose a different courier service or shop elsewhere where they do.
    • Boil - it’s the customer’s fault, not the delivery person’s.
    • A bit of a long shot but I'm on the lookout for a portable pop-up counter or podium.   The kind you often see on a high street, used by charities or utility companies to advertise their wares.   I've included a photo to give you the idea. I'm a peckham-based artist and am looking for one for a free (and non-profit) community art project.  It can be in any workable condition and can already have signage on it as we will remove and redecorate ourselves.    Thanks in advance, Linzie
    • No I absolutely did not - that much is clear. Have you read the latest stories about Unite, Len and the hotel in Birmingham? The UK electorate were smart enough to reject a far-left party in 2019, let's hope they are smart enough to reject a far-right party at the next election too. If not we are all doomed.
