Grr. I have smoke coming out of my ears.

Phoned Harris Sports Centre 10 days ago to book a party for early Dec. Went in with my cheque to pay earlier this week and found that the 3-5pm slot we had booked, "noone had written it in the diary" and so we had to rebook (at 1-3pm, overlapping baby nap time!)

I also couldn't pay by cheque it turned out, but I said I would be in today with cash and made the receptionist promise they wouldn't give away this second booking too.

Well guess what.. they did! When she was writing in their diary, she'd apparently just put my phone no and name, she hadn't actually included that we had booked a party!

It was almost a disaster, but today's receptionist, thank goodness, decided that as there no other free slots over the whole weekend, she would create a 2-4 slot just for us (which will work just about as the party is 1h with the bouncy castle and one in the party room)

I left a written complaint for the manager, I wonder what their explanation will be? I would think twice before trying to book a party there again and I'm still a bit nervous about what we'll find when we turn up on the day.

Eugh, what a nightmare.

I would ask about being put in the classroom across from gym fire e it for the food bit as otherwise don't see how you will have time to set up or clear up afterwards.

I went to a party a while back where they used the classroom and it worked really well. Might take the pressure off a bit.

How annoying.

WEll, it's their problem really. Let's see what the manager says. They just seem really unprofessional, even now they just took my cash and gave me a receipt, there was no form or anything to fill in.

Fuschia,

What I mean is that if the people before you don't get out on time then you wont have time to set your food up, if you plan to do that?

Also, clearing up and vaccuming the room is your responsibility, and I know from the parties I've been to there the room is trashed at the end with food all over floor etc. and people rarely get out on time. Just don't want you stuck there waiting to get in, or under pressure to get out at the end, it may end up that you don't get the full hour in the room.

Anyway, hope it works out.

Usually when you book a venue you should complete a booking form - this shows if you have just paid a deposit, which will then give you a date to pay balance before the event. Form should be signed and dated by whoever took your booking - a copy to be retained by them plus your copy. In the event of a double book - the person who booked first and has paper evidence to prove it - should get the booking.

    • @Sephiroth you made some interesting points on the economy, on the Lammy thread. Thought it worth broadening the discussion. Reeves (irrespective of her financial competence) clearly was too downbeat on things when Labour came into power. But could there have been more honesty on the liklihood of taxes going up (which they have done, and will do in any case due to the freezing of personal allowances).  It may have been a silly commitment not to do this, but were you damned if you do and damned if you don't?
    • I'd quit this thread, let those who just want to slag Labour off have their own thread.  Your views on the economy are worth debating.  I'm just stunned how there wasn't this level of noise with the last government.  I could try to get some dirt on Badenoch but she is pointless  Whilst I am not a fan of the Daily Mirror at least there is some respite from Labour bashing. https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/grenfell-hillsborough-families-make-powerful-36175862 https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/politics/nigel-farage-facing-parliamentary-investigation-36188612
    • That is a bit cake and eat it tho, isn’t it?    At what point do we stop respecting other people’s opinions and beliefs  because history shows us we sometimes simply have no other choice  you are holding some comfort blanket that allows you to believe we are all equal and all valid and we can simply voice different options - without that ever  impacting on the real world  Were the racists we fought in previous generations different? Were their beliefs patronised by the elites of the time? Or do we learn lessons and avoid mistakes of the past?   racists/bigots having “just as much to say” is both true and yet, a thing we have learnt from the past. The lesson was not “ooh let’s hear them out. They sound interesting and valid and as worthy of an audience as people who hold the opposite opinion”
    • I don't have a beef with you. But I do have a beef with people who feel that a certain portion of the public's opinion isn't valid.  I don't like racism any more than anyone else here. But I do dislike the idea that an individual's thoughts, beliefs and feelings, no matter how much I may disagree with them, are somehow worth less than my own.  And I get the sense that that is what many disenfranchised voters are feeling - that they are being looked down upon as ignorant, racists who have no right to be in the conversation. And that's what brings out people on the margins and drives them towards extremes, like Reform.  Whether you like it or not, the racist, bigot, anti-european nextdoor to you has just as much say in the country as you do. Intellectual superiority is never going to bring them round.
