car won't start - can anyone help?

hello, I hope this is the right section to post this?

we have a four-year-old Renault Scenic that has suddenly stopped working - it will not start. Everything else seems to be fine, various indicators on the dashboard, lights, electric lock etc work. Maybe we need a new battery? Is there anyone who knows a little about cars who could help us diagnose the problem, before we spend hundreds of pounds on repairs? THANK YOU!!
