best baby carrier

does anyone have advice of safest/best baby carriers around?

have been doing some research for a friend of mine and would like some opinions

I used the baby k'tan and loved it for the first 6 months. I've been using the Stokke MyCarrierCool since, and like it - but it's much bulkier. The k'tan I always just kept in the bottom of the pram!
