Lost Watch - No. 40 Bus

I'm new to the forum but a regular reader....maybe someone can help in my hour of need...

I lost a watch on my way home on the No 40 bus on Monday night. Very strangely for the No 40 route it was a really old bus so you'll know if you were on it as they're usually brand new. Lost somewhere between London Bridge & Kings hospital around 5.30pm. I was downstairs on the first set of raised seats towards the back. I was taken ill and fainted and I must have dislodged my watch in my fall, unfortunately I didn't realise until I was off the bus.

It is a Citizen Eco Drive watch, really big face with a black fabric strap. It was a Christmas present and I'd really love to be reunited with it.

Have contacted the transport for london lost property but no joy there.

Can anybody help?

You need to phone the bus garage - they keep lost property at the garage for a time before sending it to the main lost property office (who should have told you that!)

I don't know which the garage is for the 40, but you can google it, there is a list of garages and bus numbers. Each garage will have a customer service line.

I have now called the right bus garage but nobody seems to want to answer the phone. Must have called around 30 times until the phone itself rang-off. I guess I'll keep trying and if no joy go back to transport for london.

I have lost my wallet twice on London buses and have got it back both times, so don't give up. Find out the name of the operator, ring the garage and hope for the best.

You can turn up to the garage and ask in person if it's not too far out of your way. I can help you out with address for specific garages if you don't have it.

That's very unlucky - when I phoned Camberwell Bus Garage (for the 185, don't know if it's the one for the 40) they answered straight away and were extremely helpful.

You could try googling to see if there's another number - maybe the one you've got is out of date or otherwise not in use?

The 40's are based at Walworth garage, across the road from Camberwell garage but a different company (Abellio). If you're heading down Camberwell New Road towards Oval, it's on the right just before the rail bridge, the office is on your right just through the main gates if you're heading down there in person.

At the moment the 185 is actually operated from Mandela Way and Belvedere.

Well when I made enquiries in January the garage for the 185 was definitely Camberwell, may have changed now - unless of course senility has set in yet again :)) Quite possibly :))Anyway irrelevant to this thread which is about lost property on the 40 .....
