Warning: East Dulwich Taxis minicabs

Hi all

Just wanted to share my experience with East Dulwich Taxis. Hopefully, my account will save some of you a lot of stress (I wish someone would have warned me!)

Essentially, if you want a reliable taxi company DO NOT USE East Dulwich Taxis. The most horrific taxi experience I ever had. Booked and PREPAID a taxi a day in advance to go to Heathrow. Operator then decided to cancel it last minute because I didn't pick up the phone when he called to confirm if I still need it (even though I already paid for it!!!). When they finally sent a driver he went to the wrong address - and was waiting there (!) instead of calling me. By the time the car arrived they were 30 min late! And when I thought it can't get any worse the driver had to stop at a petrol station to refuel. Unfortunately, I was totally at their mercy as I was traveling with a toddler and needed a car seat, so couldn't just go for an Uber or AdLee. Prices may be cheap but if you want a reliable taxi don't use this one. It's hardly surprising that they done give customers the option to review them on Google.

I've had pretty much the exact same experience as you in the past with another cab company. Its very frustrating when you book ahead & then everything goes wrong on the day. Can't say I've ever heard of East Dulwich Taxi.I mostly use Keene or Uber, although these sort of things can happen with any cab company depending on what happens on the day - which driver you get, traffic, weather etc. Unfortunately booking up ahead does not guarantee everything will go smoothly, it is important to you but just another regular booking as far as they are concerned.

Keen are excellent - always 100% reliable!

In my experience 99 times out of a 100 - the one time they did let us down (a driver lied to dispatch about where he was and how long he would take to get to us) we missed a train and had to buy full price tickets for the out journey (and a breakfast which our first-class deal tickets would have got us) - however, after a certain amount of too-ing and fro-ing Keen did compensate us for the loss - so we weren't in the end out of pocket, if still somewhat discombobulated. But this was a rogue driver and not the organisation itself, so I would still endorse your recommendations.

I would recommend for travel to airports BA Transfers. They are competitive as regards costs and only let us down on one pick-up (to get home from the airport, so no danger of missing a connection) where their designated driver was caught in a major traffic accident hold-up on the M25. They found another driver locally and we were only 30 minutes waiting for a car. Again, they weren't at fault (force majeure) and did resolve the problem.

Thanks for sharing

We have found peckham ryes south east cars to be very good on train station drop offs always on time reliable friendly good price to.

Also keen we used them after surgery trip back from hospitals very kind efficient drivers.

Reasonabke orice used from kent hospital back to london reliable.

    • @Sue said: nobody is blaming the child, they are blaming the person who should have been watching him g) do you really think it was acceptable for that person to find the situation funny? This is the point. Adults are meant to teach their children by example. It sounds as though the adult guardian/ father in this case did not react appropriately. Had a truly sincere apology been given,  I suspect the OP would not have posted on here. It is possible the OP snapped in the heat of the moment, but they were possibly startled because they were hit from behind? If we are startled it can be instinctive to initially react with anger. I also agree that it would be highly irresponsible to let any very young child ride or walk or do anything on a busy public street without supervision- most of all to protect the child. If in this case the child was out of the adult's line of sight that is perhaps another indication that the father needs a refresh in appropriate behaviour around a child, as well as his manners.
    • Malumbu,  if none of us were there, does that mean that nobody should post anything on here unless they have witnesses from the EDF? Why would someone post something like this if it  wasn't true? This is not about whether children should or should not be cycling on the pavement. There are specific issues. a) the child was out of sight of the person supposed to be caring for him b) he appears to have been  either not looking where he was going or was out of control of the bike c) if he did see that he was about to hit someone  he apparently did not give them any kind of warning  d)  a person was unexpectedly hit from behind whilst just walking along, which in my view makes him a victim e) does the title of the thread really matter as the issue was described in the first post?  f) nobody is blaming the child, they are blaming the person who should have been watching him g) do you really think it was acceptable for that person to find the situation funny? The OP was not complaining about the 4 year old. They were complaining about an adult's lack of supervision of a 4 year old who was not capable of riding a bike and who hit someone from behind with no warning. Also, apart from reading the OP more carefully, perhaps also choose your words more carefully. Jobless? Lunatic? Charming.
    • I have to say, I too am upset about the passing of DulwichFox. He was a real local character, who unlike me, managed to stick with ED despite all of the nauseous yuppification of the last three decades. R.I.P to foxy    Louisa.
    • How long is a piece of string? AI was a bit rubbish on this one, but Checatrade : average cost to paint a house exterior is around £30 per square metre So depends on the size, access, time to put up scaffolding and cost of hiring and building that, surface preparation, and quality of materials.   Checkatrade put it at £2.5 k for average semi, that sounds a little cheap.
