Greece at Easter - any recommendations?

We've booked flights to Athens for 8 nights in April. Very excited as our two girls aged 9 and 10, are Ancient Greece nuts!

So we're thinking of 4 nights in Athens itself, and then 4 nights chilling on an island, but don't know which island to go for - not too far so we only spend a few hours on internal travel..

Does anyone have any recommendations for islands, accommodations, things to do/avoid etc pl?

Thanks!

Not an island but Peloponnese is well worth visiting and close to Athens.

Re. accomm, once you find an area you like check on one of the owner's direct websites for affordable places to rent, you often deal with the owner directly and therefore save ???? in commission to agents...

I would always recommend Corfu. As far away from Kavos as you can- so north of the Island.

I spent a summer there 20 years ago working in a bar and we arrived the weekend before Easter.

Easter itself was very special, all except for the constant baa-ing from lambs kept on a rope in back gardens for the big day, then the sacrificial cutting of throats.

The spit roasted result was wonderful though!

I went there years ago and thought it was great.

Then onwards to Santorini.
