Blood tests for 4 year old - anyone been somewhere other than paeds?

Recommended Posts

Hello

My 4 year old needs blood tests. The earliest appointment I can get in paeds at King's is in 2 and 1/2 weeks time, which is too long a wait. The only alternative seems to be that I take him to the adult blood clinic at King's or Dulwich Hospital (if they allow children - I'll check today). Has anyone done this?

Thanks.

Don't know if it helps but we had to take our daughter for a blood test at the Evalina at St Thomas' a few years ago. We had a referal note but as I remember it was just turn up and wait like the adult bloods at Dulwich hospital. We didn't wait long and the phlebotomist was wonderful, far better than the Doctor who had made a right mess of it in A and E previously.

She also gave me a tip - they had given us a gel to put on my daughters arm to numb the pain of the needle but apparently this can make the vein harder to find. so after struggling we used the other arm, without the gel and it was all over in moments.

    • Did you eat the chicken from the first two purchases?  Did they smell before going into the oven? I’d definitely speak to the shop and also speak to Environmental Health at Lambeth - I think that is the borough that butcher is in. Hopefully ArchieCarlos will do the same.
    • Something doesn't quite smell right here and probably it's not  the chicken. Both the OP and TheWeekEnd specifically mention  chicken thigh fillets. TWE purchased £14 worth of chicken thigh fillets and they were thrown away "probably for the third time". £14 equates to around 12 fillets which is a lot. Could some have been frozen after purchase and then thawed? And thawed properly before cooking? TWE has a total of 4 posts of which 3 are on this thread.
    • Thanks to all for the advice, very glad to have this community for these enquiries. Here is how it got resolved in case its useful for anyone in the future: I had ordered some garden waste bags, and when the Veolia person came around I just asked them, and they were more than happy to take it no questions asked. 🙂
    • I keep seeing a thread 'missing cat', but you've been found.  Not sure if all would consider that a good thing.  Not a lot new happening ....  When you back in Blighty?
