Direct trains to Waterloo East

Recommended Posts

The other thing you could do is get a train from ED to London Bridge and then jog back to Waterloo - although it's going backwards, it might possibly be quicker than the bus option :)

Good luck!

ETA: You could have a nice run along the South Bank, by the river :)

The Charing X direct services were axed in December 2009 due to those train paths that Southern railway used being obtained by SouthEastern trains. In any case, Honor Oak Park now has 12 trains per hour, 4 to London Bridge, the rest to Dalston with interchange with the Jubilee for Waterloo (and Southwark for Waterloo East) and the District and Hammersmith & City lines.

Those direct services were axed in December 2009. When they did run, it was after 7pm Mon-Sat (with one early morning service Mon/Fri) and all day Sunday.

However it's just as easy to change at London Bridge if using Southern or Canada Water if you use London Overground from FH.

Don't I know it mate. But being able to change at C Water or L Bridge etc ain't no substitute for going direct to W East for Southbank or Charing X for Cov Gdn/Strand/Whitehall/Westminster etc.

I wasn't criticising the frequency to other destinations from HOP - it's much increased and the range of destinations (admittedly mainly to places I'll never need to go to) extended - but mourning the loss of this direct connection.

Reminds me of the axeing of the South London Line (direct to L Bridge and Victoria from P Rye) and the coming of the East London Line/Overground phase two (direct to, er, Clapham Jct where you can, er, change to get to, er, Victoria).

    • In March Oli and his team did an excellent job of the following work at a property I manage.  1. Completely removing existing broken front path. Covering and securing the void (coal shute) beneath using concrete lintels, waterproof membrane and concrete. Laying a compacted sub-base and new clay pavers. 2. Removing broken fence. Securely installing 6 fence posts and 5 fence panels across the end of the back garden. Base of posts wrapped in plastic  sheath and set in post mix. 3. Removing broken render from terrace steps and cleaning then re-rendering steps where needed and repairing other parts.  4. Jet washing rear patio. I would like to thoroughly recommend him to you for a job done very well at a fair price.
    • This reads like an article in Gardeners World where Percy Chucker is discussing how he grew his SUV so big just using diesel based fertiliser and regular waywrimg 🤣   But point well made, they are getting bigger which is partly down to safety features that older cars didn't have but also marketing as adverts seen to push SUVs into the public eye.
